  • makes note of Brunwick House's address, gets dressed, makes for door

    Get lucky? ;)

  • How To Make Vietnamese Coffee - YouTube

Got me some of those filters, some condensed milk and that vietnam starbucks coffee: result was sweet and delicious, a lot like a can of sweet, milky coffee.

  • my sister lives in HCMC so I've just asked her if she can send me over one of the filter devices... looks simple brew method, maybe good for travelling/office (without condensed milk, with normal coffee)

  • Hmm, Amazon seems to be out of Gaggia Classics - the price is back up to £225 and is only available from alternative sellers. Hoping I've not missed the boat to get one on the cheap!

  • If you're out west (Kingston) or east (Old St.) there is a Vietnamese supermarket that sells them (run by a friend), possibly cheaper than getting it posted

  • Brighton has LOADS of good coffee shops now. It's remarkable. There's still plenty of shit. But so many good ones. AND decent local roasters for a change - I walked past the station just now and bought a FW from a Goldstone(?) stall - really good, nice knowledgeable people and well prepared milk/pulled shot. They were saying they have a roastery and espresso bar here somewhere.

I also sat on the Hove seafront in the sun for a couple of hours yesterday with an ice cream.

  • How did the ice cream not melt over a couple of hours? You been breaking laws of thermodynamics again?

Aeropress - the only device you need for simple travel and office, non?

Done! Mega useful, thanks for that :)

Found another place doing them for £190 which isn't tooooo bad!

Anyone in ze thread have any experience with an Iberital MC-2? They seem to get really good reviews compared to most other stuff in the price range.

Yup - had one for a year or so (the doserless version)- very good.
Only slight annoyance is the timer is VERY sensitive but you soon get used to it oh and the chute can sometimes be prone to becoming statically charged and holding onto some of the grounds - I use a toothpick to dislodge any.

Am in Manc, but good point might be one local.

yes, my aeropress already ideal, I was trying to create a need to justify a want here...

  • Anyway Sis has offered to send some of the coffee with it, so it'd feel wrong to refuse now...

    It's what I do.

  • ^ Too add to this, now I've reminded myself, the girl in there today was canoodling with her lover boy when I went in, over a coffee and croissant. I actually thought they were customers.

When I asked if the cafe was open she smirked, slunked off her stool (wearing a nude colour American Apparel body which exposed her long, toned, tanned back, plus what looked like pyjama bottoms), sauntered around in an exaggeratedly coquettish, seductive manner (either hungover or still a bit pissed), couldn't make a flat white, or find the milk jug which was right there on the counter, til I pointed it out to her, and all the while her man in the corner was eyeing her up.

I actually felt guilty for interrupting the pair's foreplay. Embarrassing or what?

And then, when I said goodbye she didn't even reply!

I've had some spectacularly shit service there. A friend of mine used to work there...not heard the best stories.

  • I hate to think :S

The staff make such a massive difference. I willingly pay much more if people are friendly.

I love the staff in Bermondsey Street Coffee and the Aussie lady in Kaffeine is so nice, really genuine. She made a point of remembering my name and always stops for a chat.

I went to Prufrock for the first time yesterday and they too were really lovely. The coffee I had was exceptionally good (and no soya milk curdling), liked the airy, clean look and feel of the place. But best of all, they let you take free bunny rabbit stickers!

  • ^ design by Martin Kingdom

  • I've been missing free stickers? Damn.

  • If anyone fancies something a bit different I can recommend Square Mile Jirmiwachu espresso. A nice natural. Wihout milk it's tangy and fruity but with a light body but with milk it tastes like strawberry milkshake!!

  • Interesting - suspect it'd be nice over ice?

  • Spooky, I picked up a bag of that yesterday. It was roasted 3 weeks back, but I got lots of fruitiness thru aeropress this morning. The flavour reminds me of one of hasbeans fruity Ethiopian peaberrys from earlier in the year.

    Overall = delicious.

  • ^ Konga Peaberry is the one I'd compare it with I think

  • That is because all those coffees are naturally processed. If you like that (I sometimes love it, sometimes it gets too much) then keep an eye out for any 'naturals'.

  • Ran out of beans this morning and was forced to buy some Waitrose Espresso beans, the ones that come in a can. Very pleasantly surprised - loads of crema and a nice smooth taste. Goes well with milk. Elevated to no.1 backupbean spot. Would recommend over any other supermarket bean that I've tried. Off for another shot....
