Cheers. I'll give it a go but I'll need to do it early in the morning to avoid the mental London traffic.
I'm used to cycling a couple of miles out of Glasgow onto relatively deserted roads and now I have to deal with all this traffic - I can see an SPD fails happening soon.
Any others?

If you think it's go an fail just replace it, of you think your gonna fail get toe straps/clips :)

The spds on my road bike are fine and I love them for proper road cycling, its just all this stoppy starty inner city stuff that has me worried of regular falling.

Train out to the edge of the Chilterns? They're not that far away.
Friend's dad has lived in Kilburn (and cycled) for years and has always done this.

I'm looking for some decent routes that go out of the city onto quieter roads heading northish. Distance between 30 and 100 km would be great.
I've just arrived from Glasgow and honestly haven't a clue about the area. My bikes pictured below.
