  • Nicely done, now don't forget the back brake dear chap!

  • It's fixed chap.

  • I think ed Means it's fixed at the front and should therefore have a back brake. Myself, I'm more concerned with the lack of foot retention.

  • That's funny ................ Ed's comment was directed towards my Langster though.

  • I'm after a Specialized Langster either in a 61cm or XXL.

    Can anyone help me out??

    Cheers

PS - Live in Milton Keynes so close would be great.

  • the quality of the drop-out plates on langster really does let the frame down abit

  • would anyone recommend buying a langster steel 2012, looking for a first fixie an was wanting to know if they're actually any good, wanted to build one but need it now really. other possibilities im looking at are fuji track or charge plug. any thoughts/knowledge appreciated, cheers

  • Here's the 2013 langster:

wow that curved tt is ugly. Shame about the paint, too. At least it was easy to cover the old graphics with black tape.

I wonder if they upgraded the cranks that wind themselves loose and the chainring bolts that fall out.

  • looks fuckin shit

Fuji Track. It's black, cheap and cheerful. The Langster in it's current form is 'meh' and the Plug is heavy (although to be fair, I don't know how heavy the Fuji is). I think it's probably less 'wantable/stealable' than a plug (but still looks good.

You should try the second hand classifieds on here though. Way better bang for your buck.

  • Oh, and get the steel frame fuji, not the aluminium one. Evans has both, and the steel is probably worth the extra 20 quid.

  • Today I asked in the Specialized concept store whether or not the Langster Pro 2013 would make it to these shores. The chap behind the counter basically said not in a million years.
Apparently it's soooo stiff that it would be crap on British roads. A bit irrelevant, as it is a track bike. Apparently the red 2012 model hardly sold over here so we are now being punished.
I think we need to petetion Specialized... I'd buy it.

  • Hi all, new here and a complete noob with all the technical bits of a bike. With the Langster 2012 its a fixed/fixed rear hub, i'd like the option to ride freewheel, when i asked the guy in evanscycles about making it fixed/free he said something about the thread and it'd be best to get a new wheelset. Not sure whether or not he was just trying to make me get another bike instead of a refund or not. So, was just wondering if its possible to make it fixed/free and maintain safety, if so what parts would I need to buy?

  • There do exist thread-on freewheels, but if you use one then it won't be using all the threads, so you could potentially strip the threads which would suck. That's possibly what the Evans guy was saying. Most people will say it's fine and that the thread destruction is quite unlikely to happen. Here's a thread discussing the same dilemma: http://www.lfgss.com/thread11526.html

  • I had a freewheel on a fixed thread for almost a year. Threads on the hub were fine when I recently put a cog on it.

  • Thanks for the replies, that's great news. Would i just need a single speed freewheel sprocket?

  • A freewheel will work fine on a fixed thread, but the 2012/2013 Langsters are designed as track bikes, so it won't be the nicest ride. If you definitely want a Langster, I'd go for a secondhand 2007-2011 one.

  • Last weeks cycling weekly had an advert for someone clearing uk stock of langster pro frames for 300 notes. Can't remember who.

  • Just about everyone is.

  • I'm looking for a langster steel - either frame only or complete - size 56/ 58.

    Hit me with some offers!

  • Saw that - £280 at the moment.

You could try swapping your real wheel for one that has a freewheel thread, sure someone on the forum would be willing.
