What gave me the courage to make the call, was that I had previously spent 5 mins shouting at someone to give Tim the flag behind that goal, so I was able to ask Tim what had happened, and act on what he told me he saw, because I could not see what was going on, beyond that Will had fallen on the goal-line, and YWY had the ball in and around the crease.
If it had been some random drunk person, I'm not sure I would have been quite so confident.
Moral of the story: for finals, make sure you get good goal refs in place (Flo from Punky Munch was at the other end, and I would have trusted him just as much as I trusted Tim).
