He's a fiscal conservative. The types of points he's making are not at all foreign to the Republican party. Not necessarily the most widely held, but he's not unique in them. Although the flirting with the extreme right has been pushing "that type" of Republican further and further out. Hopefully the pendulum will swing back at some point.
