£1441.83 total. If that figure doesn't terrify you, then go ahead. If it does, you could halve your spend by doing some shopping on here instead.

That's a road wheelset... you need a track wheelset.

Also that's a shitload of money for a Leader frame and forks...you could get a Cinelli for less.

Plans sound oke, but then you have all parts new and not for the cheapest price.
Just look over here (classified) and search the internet with an eagle eye.
You'll find all those parts cheaper.
Also searching parts is a part of building which I really like. -

Agreed, £1400 is way over my budget - but my plan was always to find used/unwanted parts for this project. I'm more concerned with the quality/compatibility of the parts listed at this point.

Lol, the fk, freewheel for 50 pounds? Shimano one will cost u 10..

For the price of that frame you can buy a good quality second hand bike on here that will meet/surpass your needs.
Also why not try ride fixed from the get go? Why only freewheel for commuting/long rides?

Do you know what size frame you'll need?
buy this if it fits /thread
(Not sure if the frame is drilled for braks though)

I could but I've gone through so many second hand bikes - so this time my plan is to fix myself up a fresh bike and in the process learn how all these parts fit/work together to be a little more self-reliant in the future.
I prefer freewheel riding on dangerous routes into work but yeah, I'd likely ride fixed on +10mile rides anyway. A little backwards I admit, but just preference I guess.

I'd consider what components you really want to buy brand new, and those you can cope with used (but still in good shape). I'd buy a brand new BB (compatible with whatever cranks you go for). I'd settle for used cranks personally.
You can get an excellent and appropriate wheelset on here for about £200 - they come up for sale often. I could also live with a used frame, especially given some in our classifieds are barely touched. I'd buy a brand new headset though if the frame doesn't come with one already fitted. And definitely forget that freewheel - Shimano jobbies are extremely reliable.

I'd just recommend going on the trade section on this website aswell as other websites such as eBay and what not. I am also trying to find parts for a fixed gear but I enjoy going to car boot sales! I find many different bike components there for an extremely cheap price. I managed to get a Cannondale Vintage Racing Frameset / Shimano 600 Cranks / Complete Road Bike with Cinelli Bars and stuff for only £25 and a Optimum Freewheel for only 50p, however I'm still on the hunt for a decent set of wheels!
Hello all,
My plan for a while has been to build a bike from scratch but as I'm a total novice I thought before I commit to purchasing these parts I'd post them here and see if anyone had any suggestions/opinions on this setup.
I'm planning to keep it freewheel with a flip/flop hub incase I end up on the track but this'll mainly be used for commuting and the odd long distant ride.
I've never built a bike before so any help/links/suggestions would be very welcome!
