  • I just learned (about 10 years late), that more veterans of the Falklands War killed themselves in the years since the 1982 conflict than died during the war itself.

    This has blown my mind.

    Suicide is the most common cause of death for young males in the UK (well, first or second most common cause, depending on the year and method of sampling).

    Britain suffered 258 casualties during the Falklands war. I can't seem to track down exactly how many served to work out a percentage, but I think this statistic would be less impressive when compared to the percentage of men that would have killed themselves anyway.

    Still, it's sad that anyone would take their own life after risking it to serve their country.
