• OK, after much considerations, I may want to sell my Mercian. I've asked a couple friends how much they thought I could sell this but nobody have an opinion, so please tell me what you think...

Before I go further I want to make some kind of disclaimer...
A few years ago I was riding my 1950s Holdsworth and the frame snapped (I had it fixed and I still ride it). It could have been nasty but I was at low speed so I did not even fall.
Since then I'm conscious that vintage bikes are somehow more unpredictable than recent ones so I feel I have the responsability, if I sell an "old" bike, to inform potential buyers that I have no clue about the bike frame and parts fatigue. I can only say that I ride it everyday with total confidence, but that means nothing:
-I have no idea how the bike was used when I bought it 4 years ago.
-During the 4 years I had it, I was knocked off twice by a car overtaking me at a left turn (typical!). After these crashes, there was damage to the the rear wheel, but the frame never required re-tracking and does not show damage as far as I can see. Last crash was nearly two years ago, I have been riding the bike normally since.

Sorry for that long note... and fuck it if it's a sale killer

Anyway, the specs are as follows:

-531 build 1979 Mercian in Champagne / red lug lining scheme, 531 tubbing according to Mercian who I called with serial number. Centre to centre, seat tube is 60cm, top tube is 57.5cm
    -Ofmega steel headset
    -Weinman vainqueur centre pull brakes
    -Weinman brake levers
-Shimano brake quick release system (front one is part of the headset, rear one is attached to the saddle clamp bolt... very cool and very practical with thicker tyres)
    -GB stem and headset
-KF imports seatpost & Brooks B17 Champion Narrow
-Campagnolo Veloce cartridge sealed bearing BB
-Campagnolo Centaur crankset (3 chainrings, only 2 in use due to vintage front mech, can throw a suitable front mech if that's a problem)
    -Shimano LX sport rear mech
-Shimano 600 (early style) front mech
-Shimano 600 (early style) gear levers
-Front wheel: Campagnolo nuevo record hub and Mavic MA40 rim, 36 spokes
-Rear wheel: Mavic (model unknow, very good quality freewheel system) hub and Mavic Module 3CD rim, 36 spokes (can throw rear hub matching front for people attached to details)
-Front and rear Pasela Panaracer gum wall tyres, with some life.
    -Velo Orange hammered mudgards
-Front and rear rack, old style, I've been looking at my Alex Singer book too much! (front rack is a bit rusty, had to hammerite black the stays, still looks OK)

Voila, I'd like to add that I am quite keen on keeping the B17 saddle. I would sell the bike + or - £35 (with/without saddle), and put a standard saddle if bike is bought without the brooks, so that it's rideable.

    Pictures now:

(PS - Leather front bag would not be included)

  • No clue anyone?
    Pleeeeease?

  • I see tourers like that go for £250+ on here, retrobike and the bay. Maybe start it off at £225 (not unreasonable given the lack of saddle I reckon)...?

    Nice bike BTW :)

Thanks for that, much appreciated. (Oh and thanks too for your nice comment)
I had in mind a bit more, but I don't know so much the tourers market, that's why I came to ask here!

Will think about it and maybe try a sale here...

I have a brooks saddle I'd happily include instead of this one (which I bought new and broke to my bones, which is why I'd like to keep it). It's an nice B17 (the old ones with chrome railings) but which is darker than the bar tape, maybe that would help the sell...

  • anybody any idea what this is ?

wierd trellis frame could be home made top quiality 99.99 from halfords s

  • Buy it for the novelty.

  • anyone? guys waiting for me to make an offer

I think it's worth more to be honest....£350-£450 ish IMHO...

What is the handlebar bag though? Do you want to sell it?

Yes, I'm considering selling to finance another project. Do you know someone who'd be interested?

Sorry I thought you meant the bike, did not read your post correctly, no, sorry the handle bar bag is not for sale!

  • I have this MTB that has been gathering dust. I want rid of it but I have no idea how much it is worth.

Labelled up as a twentyfour seven dark angel v.02. It is in working condition, gears change smoothly enough. However it has mismatched cranks.

The Vivalo frame featured in the above thread. Not sure how much to insure it for. Already know the value of the other parts as they're always popping up, just the frames don't...

  • Hoping for help with the identity and value of these hubs:

OLN is 126mm. Front is laced to an Open 4 CD

  • Campagnolo Tipo?

No clue about the value, but i don't see these ones around a lot

  • This guy wants me to make an offer, how much do you reckon?

  • It's nice, but not amazing. Good componentry but not classic or amazing.
I'd pay £275, but I don't know much, it may be more, it may be less.
    Ignore me basically. XD

  • ^^ I'd say you were doing pretty well if you got it for £200 ish

  • I wouldn't pay a jot more than £170 for it.

531 frame but it looks well used, you'll need new tyres, tape, cables etc
Will have to give it a service.

  • Be good to know how much I could get for my refinished 80's Bianchi F+F. Would get rid of the no name wheels, AVA stem, bars and seatpost too. Rough idea on price would be cool.

  • How much is my NJS 58cm Samson worth? Paint has seen better days but there are no dings or dents at all and it is a rare size for an NJS frame in Japan.

...by your pictures you are still in Japan ? If so that makes pricing a little
tricky if your posting out of Japan as Royal Mail may sting the the receiver
with a heavy import/duties bill ergo less interested parties...

If its in the UK - maybe 500-700

If your in Japan - Maybe between 70,000-120,000 depending on who you sell to (dealer/private).

  • for the frame or the entire bike??

  • Evening all

I'm thinking of selling my 2010 Allez.

2300 groupset with Mavic Rimtec 190h wheels (not much info on these but you get an idea from the picture). There's a ding in the toptube, not sure how much this will affect the price so thought I'd ask! Lights and pedals would not included by the way. It's a 54 if anyone's interested... Cheers guys!

  • hi guys
got given this frame just wanted to see
    1) if it is a merckx
    2) how much its worth

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/86593364@N06/

    cheers

  • It's not a Merckx, it probably is a Falcon, they had permission to replica Merckx frames.
I can't tell you anything about what it's worth.
