  • I freecycled a pair of those after about an hours riding. Your foot sits on that cylindrical bit in the middle - and as a result they are fucking lethal in the wet (and not much better in the dry!).

it you don't have hard soled shoes on they are a bastard.. agreed with the slippery as well... might change mine once I take the time atacs off

  • These are not an improvement. Infact they're possibly worse.

MKS EZY system are good though. But to be honest I've not found my Brompton pedals to be too bad. Just have to locktite the cage screws.

  • Just put some nice flat pedals on, sticks out on one side after folding the bike, but not caused me significant bother in 2+ yrs like that.

  • I use shimano m324, handy for jumping on in trainers on flat side, but still has spd's if i have to ride it more than a couple miles. find the spiky pedal is better than the smoother platformed shimano a530 which my feet tended to slip off when I rode in the wet.

  • I used M324's for years on my other bikes, but didn't want to wear SPD's with the Brompton.

I love my MKS EZY pedals, easy to remove and take straps too, have actually thought about getting them for other bikes, as they are good anti theft devices too!

  • Hurry the fuck up please Brompton.

  • Ha! I have finally re-built my Brompton with the new frame. All went smoothly, I rode it to work today, all good, except I still need to replace the SA 3 speed trigger (just won a cheap one on ebay)

  • Meant to be doing the BWC this weekend and, having not ridden my Brompton for 6 months, I think I'd better do some fettling. Is there anything extra compared to a normal bike that I need to do, anything special for the hub gears?
    Cheers

  • it's all magic to me.. I've had to bail on the bwc, too much wedding stuff and not enough time. Boo

  • Brompton pedals are poop.
Switched to these now, good move.

I have been considering this for years, but the little usage I have of the bike don't justify me to invest... but this morning I was about to change my mind on this: I was trackstanding like a king (yes on my brompton), using a subtle slope at the red light, I was even still seated on the bike, totally effortless, and, being the only cyclist there on a folder, I can claim without a doubt that I was the cooler brompton rider at the junction! But BANG, lights turn green and as I push the pedal my foot slipped away from that bloody crappy plastic pedal and the whole thing was ruined... after a good 40 second track standing, I had to put my foot on the floor! Oh wait, this is not the epic fail thread...

    Yo!

  • King of trackstand no longer :(

  • Brompton World Championships.

    Anyone doing this tomorrow ?

    I am.

  • The really rather attractive (imho) Zeb Soanes (he reads the Shipping Forecast) here: The Wheels of Chance - Zeb Soanes - YouTube

  • He sounded pretty gruff there.

  • I've not seen one Brompton that was serviced at work with a scratched paintjob now that tiles have mentioned it.

my brompton is fooked - she needs a full overhaul (and very scratched) :/

Yours is clear-coated though right? How old? They stopped doing it for a while as they had such issues with it.

FWIW I've seen rusty, flaking and badly scratched Bromptons at work many times (mostly quite old ones) but the paint does hold up well compared to other bikes.

How'd you get on? what time/placing did you get?

  • How'd you get on? what time/placing did you get?

    Ha !

I'll start with a list of my excuses -

    1. It was hot
    2. 3 hours drive and half hour prep.
    3. Single speed (could have had something to change up to)

Race no.757 last pack to go but I was passing loads of people.
Actually did the 2nd lap faster than the 1st.

    Time 31.53
Placed 416 (367 in the Vet cat )
Rubbish really but I know what to do next year.

  • why is oddjob chasing you?

  • Brought an m6l 2nd hand about 2 years ago. Not sure how old it is but it's got the Sachs spectra hub. Regularly greased the bearings, cleaned the chain and pumped the marathon plusses up to 100psi. Nether had anything fail apart from the right crankarm coming away from the front cog one day climbing a stupidly steep hill in Yorkshire. I replaced it with a brompton crank an pray it doesn't happen again. At Least there's no crossbar on the brompton!!!
