I had an awesome weekend at the Tourney. Was helping with the LCC stand, it was lovely to get a warm welcome and see so many familiar faces.
The spirit of the event was fantastic, a great willingness to work together, great camaraderie amongst the players, people helping out all over the place, graceful competition, good sportsmanship. The weather did not affect the positive spirit, huddling together under the scant cover from the elements like penguins was an unexpected highlight, lots of great banter ensued.
The one thing that was missing was the heckling of old, few chants of "your shit" etc. Though the team names were fantastic, each time I heard someone was playing with your mum I chuckled.
Was sad to leave this evening, so did not see the last couple of rounds. The games that I saw were fantastic, great skills on display.
As an occasional observer there were some notable developments in gameplay. Teamwork and spatial awareness are key to how the game has advanced. Also a delicate touch rather than strength at belting the ball has refined the technique. The game flows much better, a few years ago there were many more body checks but with no certainty of remaining in play, and instead people are playing the ball and to stay in play much more.
Hats off to the organisers and everyone involved it was a truly excellent weekend.
