It should slide in easily. If you bash it, it will never come out.
I am a complete bike novice. Only this past half an hour have I learned it's called a quill stem. It's lowerd all the way in now. Looks hawt.
Thanks for advice.

Has anyone tried the Zipp Service Course bars? I use a 46cm 3T Ergonova at the mo and wanted to try a Service Course (Short & Shallow) in 46cm on the new build. Looked for a Drop Bar thread in Bikes & Bits but couldn't see one.
Me and 2 riding mates use Zipp SC, can't reccomend them enough, great shape. I've got the standard drop in 40cm however.

Its mine, its mine!
Now, do I take it apart and give everything a good polish and leave it as 7 speed campag,
or do i try it out with the sram 10 speed rival i have?
According to sheldon, a 10speed campag cassette shouldnt cause any issues with the sram gear system..
nice.
get a crank puller

Just ordered the Zipp Service Course Short/Shallow bar in 46cm. £34. Not bad I think. Hopefully not too wide for me.

Been playing around with the Spotter Bars™ and not finding them as good as I thought, as they're more stretched out than I was expecting.
So decided to measure them today and found them to have 10-15mm longer reach than Spotters cover website describes them as having.
In the meantime I having found another producer that makes 46cm wide bars, the 3T Ergonova.
I know they're only gonna be 46cm from the c - c of the drop ends and not the hoods, but its still better than a kick in the balls.
Anybody else found this with a Spotter Bar™, or did I just get the last of 2009 production that were that length or something?

I picked this up on ebay for 35pounds. listed poorly, with only one picture from below. noticed it was without a rear chain stay bridge, figured it could be damaged or a fairly nice frame, decided to take a risk:
it came with campag chorus ergopower shifters, chainset, f+r mech and a box of bits that didn't go with the frame. it had a bad rattle can paint job, and bb shell was full of paint. today i got out some paint stripper to clean the bb. revealed a little bit of the original paint. quite a nice light green/blue.
i gave it a light wipe with the stripper and the black paint came off.
stuck some wheels on. probably just give it a clear coat, don't want to get too precious, just want it on the road asap. ATALA pantographed into fork, campg dropouts and without a chain stay bridge.
really don't know much about this frame builder besides they are Italian...and not exactly sure how I will build it up as yet....... -

^^ nice thinking there Sherlock =)) well done
I'm 5'9" and the Surly I'm building is a nominal 50cm frame, but the TT is 535mm. I like a short reach anyway, but even more so on a tourer. It just shows you can't decide based on what size they market the frame as, I measured the reach on my other bikes and calculated what I wanted for the Surly I was pretty shocked when my figures said I need the 50cm frame with an 8cm stem. Now I've sat on it though it feels pretty good, I could probably go even shorter, though I think toe overlap could become a real problem.
