Have a read of the first page of this thread, and it may make your reassess your choice of chain. The Krypto 3000 is good, but do compare with others in the same price or weight sector.

I apologise if this has been asked before (I've scanned the thread and tried to utfs), but I was wondering if anybody knew which size of the New York locks would make a good fit around a pompino's rear wheel and stays and a standard bike rack? My fahg is pretty useless with it atm.

Any suggestions for how to lock a bike up in your own home? I've had a fuji cyclocross bike nicked from my corridor once, i wished id of locked it up :(
I figured thing's like Radiator pipes, but the only way i could think to lock it to that would be with a long cable - which i know from various youtube videos to be entirely useless.

If inside, look at alarm locks in addition to something more secure. Bloody loud.

I wouldn't lock my bike to a radiator pipe, as you could come home to find no bike plus a flood.
A wall anchor as suggested above is the best bet. However, I use a couple of RawlBolt /Shield anchor eyelets (the better quality ones with an unbroken eyelet) as a locking point for a boat trailer. I have the padlock through both of them so they can't be unscrewed.

I think I'll get the new version of the Onguard Brute. http://www.go1bike.fr/en/5810-lock-onguard-8001-brute-std-111-x-202-o-16-mm.html
In the end, I got a couple of Kryptonite new york STD locks I found on offer for £35 each.

Lemonaid - w

I happened to see them on Amazon. They'd sold out within an hour though.

I just bought myself a Kryptonite New York M18 lock after reading this thread. I was getting a bit paranoid about my bikes and needed some peace of mind.
I'm very pleased I did. It's very big and burly and looks well up to the job.Reason I chose this one was
a) it was listed in the first page if this thread for primary security and
b) its the best lock of a useful size that I like. Obviously the Fag is the best but this thing is just like one of them but in a practical and useful size, i.e. what I wanted! I can't see how a Fag can be used practically to lock up your bike (with both wheels - front removed by the QR) and lock it TO something. I also may need to use it for my MTB as well so need the bigger size for that too.I'd also like to add that if anyone was wondering, it IS rated Sold Secure Gold. (some internet searches I did said otherwise).
Anyway, it's a very decent lock. If you want a lock like a Fag but in a practical, useable size, get this.
Also, in case anyone was wondering - Internal measurements of the 'D' are 100mm x 260mm.
I found it for £62.45 on Amazon, free postage. Arrived next day. Great.

I have a new purchase:
£5.50 from the shop opposite my house called 'pound saver'
Certainly wouldn't lock my bike with it (got a fahg) but its not a bad 'throw on' to stop the more opportunistic thieves out there..

I wouldn't chance my bike's security with that. Not even for a minute. Not recommended, especially on this thread, where people want to know the absolutely best options for locks.

I lock my front wheel and frame with a fahg, everything else is silicone/ball bearing and pitlocked.. That's just for the cranks.. As I said, it's a throw on.. A nifty novelty..

The edscoble method is best. Using a good sized lock, one locks the crank with the rear wheel and seat-tube, all in one. Quite ingenious, and eminently practicable.

Can bike thieves really be arsed to nick cranks?

Can bike thieves really be arsed to nick cranks?
Yes. Especially if they are nice ones. I'd imagine it's a rarer theft but it happens.
-
• #1794
The crank is used to fill up space within the lock and also to reduce the ability of the thief move the lock around to make it more convinient for him to launch a bottle jack attack.
Most cranks could easily be pinched with the correct tools.

2 x Fahg mini's and the old ball bearing trick on any nuts. Will this be good for London? I'm bringing a bike down which looks far nicer than it is (decent road frame but fucked dropouts, hence worthless for anything other than hack), and I'd like to keep it in as few pieces as possible. Cheers

• #1796
Pardon my ignorance but what's the ball bearing trick for nuts?
-
• #1797
superglue and ballbearing in the allen slot
-
• #1798
Ah right.
And when you want to adjust a bolt yourself?

Nail varnish remover, a pin and some patience...
can't see your picture but there's a photo on here of the time someone buckled my rear wheel rotating my bike around my Granit x54. looks like they attempted to crop it too but only cut the rubber.
this was the beginning of my single speed adventure as I realised how expensive alfine wheel builds are
