Do you mean, can I add 3mm of spacers on either side?
-
• #3
Depends on dropout thickness, the axle doesn't have much spare length for the track nuts to hold on to.

I just wasn't sure if it was possible to do. I know nothing about road bikes and am trying to build up my first one. Is it possible to change the axle?

Is it a road hub or a track hub?

With a hollow axle and QR? In that case you'll need a longer axle (132mm for 126mm OLN) plus some spacers. Campyoldy have the complete assembly including cones for £25
http://www.campyoldy.co.uk/stocklist.htm
scroll down to "Record 6spd rear q/r axle complete with cones, spacer & locknuts"
and you probably also need the longer QR skewer 2 lines below it -

Other option is to buy a cheaper Weldtite axle. I've used them and haven't had any problems.
