  • Hovis: this is the only segment that registers a 3 lap for me. http://www.strava.com/segments/rp-3-lap-challenge-anti-outside-roe-1492960

going out tonight to shave a few seconds of my pb hopefully.

  • Went out way too hard, but managed to pull through the 2nd lap bonk.
New bike coming this week so wanted to see the difference in time, between the 2 bikes.
Set this on a Sora equipped Trek 1400! Crap bikes do go fast!

  • haha damn good work. gonna have to work hard today to stay within 60 minutes

  • Went hard to get down to 54 but there is so much traffic and police in the park when its this nice out. Managed to knock 2 minutes of the pb and a good 25 seconds of my best lap! Put 3 hard laps in and a 4th to make sure it registred in the 3lap ccw segment but of course only 2 laps did. Came up in my private segment however.

New bike coming this week so wanted to see the difference in time, between the 2 bikes.
Set this on a Sora equipped Trek 1400! Crap bikes do go fast!

Glad I was not out. Nothing worse than being crushed by Sora.

  • As much about legs as gears. You only need one (gear, not leg. I find the second leg helps quite a lot).
Everyone looks to be doing well with the parking now the sun's out, top of the table getting nicely close.

  • is there a consensus on the penalty for clockwise vs anticlockwise?
I seem to remember seeing something somewhere, but trawled this thread to pg 10 and gave up..

I've always had grand visions of recording this, but I get bored after lap 1. Or I get half way through a second lap and encounter London Dernymo, and confronted with the shame of it all I take the next exit.

That and the fact that I like to imagine I'm fast whenever I overtake someone in lycra (usually on a brompton), and I'm not sure I could handle (the truth of) finding out I'm a 60+ bloater.

  • what goes up, must come down. all depends on where the wind is that day!

  • ........finding out I'm a 60+ bloater.

    Its not that bad.

  • Hm, this looks like fun - something i should really be doing living next to the park.

Is there a recommended best time to do this, to avoid people/deer/car/new-wiggins-wannabe traffic? :)

  • midweek during the day but not lunchtime
    the dead of night
    after 6:30/7pm at the weekend
or really early morning any day

  • I would say early mornings. Definitely had my best runs between 9 and 12. In my experience there is tons of traffic up to 8pm

  • not good, but not as fantastically shit as I had expected
next time I will go late in the evening or overtake cars that are keeping the speed limit...

  • Thought I'd add my time since its been a while since I trained in Richmond Park. I did 6 laps on my geared bike and paced myself so reckon I could have gone a little quicker but managed 1.01:31...

  • Haven't been to the park for a while; a great deal more people on bikes than I remember for funemployment time lappage. I think starting my ride in time for the school run special was an error, only so many times per day I like to face Range Rover-shaped death.

  • Hopefully that'll do until next year, might take the fixed out if I get bored though.

  • got up at 06 today to beat the shit out of the 3lap on my crabon steed. only to be greeted by riot fencers and filthy triathletes in a park closed to plebs like me

  • So windy out there today, and slipped a dam chain. Still the wind made it solid training.

  • The Park was bloody busy today and slow in places, but pretty happy with a sub hr time considering. There is definitely room to knock at least a minute of that time.

  • I finally did 3 laps today. I'm heading to florence next week, but haven't done more than the commute for the last month really. Was planning to hit surrey hills but then ran out of time.... so it was the park in the end.

despite feeling pretty strong, it turned out to be a bit of a faff. lots of traffic, pretty windy, and I had two mechanicals - the cleats coming off my new shoes.

these got paused, so I guess the loop doesnt count. happy to say it was sub 60 though. one day I'll have another crack and do it properly without stopping 2 or 3 times a lap.

Unfortunately/fortunately I was chatting to a guy on a nicely patina'd claud who said he was heading to Tuscany next week too....... for the L'Eroica.

Can hardly believe I've hired a carbon bike to ride around Tuscany the same weekend as 3,500 classical beautiful bikes. It's going to be uber busy and I'm going to look like a twat.

    booo.

  • fantastic ride at rp last night. turned up at about 6pm. no cars no people and put in a good few laps before the fear and proper darkness made me leave. it was phenomenal as the sun was setting and the mist was rising from the fields and best of all there was virtually no wind. forget schlepping round early doors, just before dusk is the best time to hit the park by far. will definitely be doing that again. lots of angry stags though

  • It's rutting season...

I love riding in the park at night. The stags are LOUD at the moment and can put the fear of God into you!
