  • Cool see you there, Hopefully I'll be back in London on time, do you think my fixed crosser with brakes disabled would qualify? I won't be able to take brakes off, too much hassle.

  • I think a track bike is required for the championship but the crosser would be fine for the omnium. Email Barbara - she replied to me sharpish.

  • Bargain Commencal hardtail for sale in classifieds...

    mountainbike downhill maaaadness

  • ^Do I see the new Olympic champion running Suntour suspension forks? That won't please a few bike snobs I know :-)

  • To my layman's eye it looked like they could have nailed that circuit rigid.

  • 42 tooth sprocket on the back though...

Yes, I saw that. I'm sure they're capable of making an adequate fork, even though their bread and butter is making shit for BSOs

  • 24th place Canadian was on Rock Shox, didn't do her any good, again with the single ring.

Yes, you could ride it on a rigid singlespeed, but racing isn't about just getting round.

  • ^ Agreed. I enjoy riding a rigid mtb for the simplification of the bike & the extra concentration required for technical riding.

If I wanted to just go fast though, suspension would have to be part of the equation*.

*The other parts include being fit, weighing far less & probably a dozen other things that a real athlete could tell you about.

Hadleigh Farm can be done with only one chainring, apparently. By girls, at that.

I got tickets courtesy of the British Cycling raffle someone mentioned here - cheers!) and watched at Deanes Drop and the other more technical bits plus a couple of the climbs.

I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I saw any of the women get out the saddle. Impressive stuff especialy since some of them looked about 6 stone.

  • Fixed

I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I saw any of the women get out the saddle, because some of them are about 6 stone.

I'm just envious :-( Sounds great fun!

  • This wasn't so obvious on the TV coverage which was shot from outside the turn:

  • ^ Wow!

A lot of people just don't appreciate how technically capable " Jey XC riders " really are.

  • 42 tooth sprocket on the back though...

Yes, if they had the new SRAM XX1 1x11 drivetrain
    Chainring options: 28,30,32,34,36,38
    Cassette: 10-12-14-16-18-21-24-28-32-36-42
Special rear hub to accept the 10-up 11s cassette, apparently DT will be supporting the standard.

Back when I had gears, I struggled with anything below a 1:1 ratio and ended up using a 2x9 system 32-22/11-23, so I can't see that I'd need a range bigger than the 36/11-36 I could get with a 1x10 system using standard hubs, which still gives a top gear of >25mph/100rpm

  • the arm on the rear mech must be very long.... 42 lul

  • Suntour had a mech/freewheel system (AG-Tech*) that went up to 38t about 30 years ago.

*disraeligears will need to update their description "38 teeth remains, to this day, the largest rear cog to be commercially available" when XX1 comes to market this autumn.

  • wow =)

  • The jumps were pretty big on a 14-38 5-speed though. Definitely a place for a half-step set up.
