    As with most italian law there are millions of apparently ignored rules that can be randomly applied at the enforcers discretion if they don't like your face.....

    Last year there was no formal inspection of bikes, I think it just works on trust and goodwill, which they can by and large rely on - the rules are part of the fun of it really...

    A substantial portion of vintage bikers use modern pad compounds, but I suspect you'd stand out a bit if you were using cork or soft foamy bar tape

    I'd wondered what the apparently arbitrtary 1983 cut-off is all about - apparently it marks the death of Tullio Campagnolo anything before that is considered romantic, and after that it's all new-fangled....
