I was doored last Monday on my way home from work. I was going quite fast Trinity Road on the bus lane and passing a Royal Mail minivan standing on a bus stop the driver opened the doors just in front of my face and BOOM! I fly over 10 meters and hit the ground. Fortunately and I would say miraculously (don't use a helmet) except of bruises on left arm and left knee I was fine. My bike has suffered, downtube has been dented and bent a little, front wheel is not true and brake levers are bent and scratched badly. I spent over a year on restoration of this bike so it's something more for me than just a bike...
The driver didn't see me in mirrors. Probably, for few seconds I became invisible. Sorry for that. This super power (or curse) I posses (and probably many of cyclist here) always manifest in not appropriate moment... But in general the guy was shocked and very sorry.
By coincidence there was a patrol of police on the other side of the road and one of the officers was on the scene seconds after it happened so he took a report and I've got all the details. The ambulance was called as well, but after quick examination left. I'll be claiming damages for my bicycle.
