Awesome. How much of the pink did you do yourself? Did you do any of the frame detailing?
-
• #65306
Wow, well done eddie. You always come correct.

Does anybody know of a riser bar like the Nitto -
- that has minimum sweep, preferably none at all, but with 31.8mm clamp?

Nice work eddie - good to see an Al Mega without a cracked headtube!!!
My 2 brothers and I had an Al-Mega DX, a Cro-Mega LX and a Cro-Mega DX - with the rear axle just beneath the saddle you can get up and down anything!
(Loving the (very) pre-period "groupset" too!) -

^^ Thats a lucky girl friend! Looks well nice. Whats the width on the bars?
Nuke Proof Warhead.
Er, just checked and they have 9deg back sweep and 6deg upsweep!
The opposite of what I wanted, as they have more sweep than your average bar.
Or did you mean they used to do one without?
Any other ideas appreciated. -

any good?
I think if your natural postion is 0 degree sweep, you may be sitting too close to the bars?.

She says "i am a lucky girlfriend, i looove it!" :)
Not sure of the width, but they are pretty wide and might need cutting down, they are just from some hybrid.

long story short, I wiped out last Saturday. (Tower Bridge Road)
German tourist (ped) walked into me which resulted in her breaking her arm in 2 places & 3 broken fingers (requires surgery) as well as the usual road rash/bruises. Unfortunately I weigh close to 95kg and she was quite elderly and frail. Not a good scenario.
I've spoken to her and her husband since, no hard feelings and we joked a bit about Germany (and Greece's) abysmal performances at this Olympics. We also mutually agreed not to discuss politics or economics at this point.
I had no time to react etc as she literally stepped into my cockpit and not in front of the bike so to speak.
Bike wise, I was on the Gara, which is broadly fine but the cockpit swang round, risers skipped over the TT and the underside of the X2 faceplate struck the TT causing this:
I peeled back a bit of paint and softly went over it with a rough sponge revealing the full dent:
Spoke to Ryan (Oak Cycles) and Jacopo (Dodici Cicli) and both basically said the same thing. Ride it, but keep an eye on the damage and if a crack appears, stop riding.
Questions, (thanks in advance)
1-any chance of catastrophic explosion a la carbon?
2-worth repairing? possible? Dodici mentioned replacing the TT but their framebuilders are away till September...
3-can I re-laquer locally? If so suggestions? clear nail varnish?
4-could a crack start from the inside of the tube and not be immediately visible from the outside?
5-the frame is straight and true, but where would I get this ratified? LBS?I have to say that the Police report puts her at fault 100% and as she realised I could claim ££££ from a no-win-no-fee outfit, her husband is offering me enough cash to replace the entire frame + parts.
It's no trick bike, but the Gara is generally thought to be more bombproof than other alu street tarck bikes..hmmm
V. quick update. cash received in my account just now.

how much did you get?
-
• #65322
fiddy dorrah ;)
I know someone said "pursue it, don't accept the cash" but actually they gave me exactly what I asked for, not an offer from them so to speak.
It was sensible and will potentially cover the cost of a new Gara + postage + forks (if there's damage) + headset, stem etc.
On top of that I dont have time/energy to get involved with the lawyers.

ouch mate, i love that ride, what is it with the C**T stickers though, i'm sure there was a tread started yesterday?
-
• #65324
^^^^ Just a thought with that frame if you're keeping it, might be worth drilling out the dent then brazing on a top tube protector.
Drilling would eliminate the risk of cracks spreading
-
• #65325
no cracks yet, but is that an accepted method of repairing alu or a workaround for temporary use ?
only taken me like two years to build this up. ~ £160 total price of build plus £1.50 for some pink paint to do some detailing :)
waiting for the snow to fall for a few days of fun.
