Middleburn Cranks

  • Right Im need a new set of cranks and was thinking of trying to stay british.

I've rode middleburns on XC/DH bikes for years and they have always been spot on but has anyone used them for Fixed?

And had any problems with wear on the removable spider or that sort of thing?

  • I'm looking to upgrade to Middleburns on my Pompetamine. Can't see how there would be any problems running them fixed. The quality is all there.

  • I've been thinking the same recently... Middleburns on my british track build would be sweeet. Interested also in what people have to say about them.

  • Haven't ridden them fixed, but have them on a singlespeed MTB. They will be perfect for riding fixed IMO, very strong and very stiff

  • their RS-8 makes a nice weight weenie crank too
one thing to watch out for the bcd may be small for road / track chainrings ? i may well be talking out of my arse here
shimano chainrings are mainly 144 bcd middleburns are a lot smaller .... maybe thats for their uno version

their properietary chainrings look even smaller

  • Yeah, that's a good point. The setup I'm looking at is 110 bcd. It's what I'm using now and I'm planning on using Middleburn rings anyway so it's not a problem. Might not work for some people tho.

I think the biggest they go even on the road spiders is 135, would be nice if they did do a 144. Might give them a shout and see what the deal is...

  • They do chainrings to fit the spiders so I don't imagine that will be a problem with sizes!

  • Yep true, depends what your needs are for chainrings. Needs more research.

  • Has anyone had problems with the teeth on the inside of the crank from wear i.e. from skidding/ heavy stress from it?!

  • anyone had any luck with Middleburn Unos and a 42mm chainline?

I've flipped the chainring (it's dished) and am ordering a 110mm bottom bracket (113mm produces the recommended 50mm chainline). Hopefully everything'll line up okay...
