I found a venue for proper North drinks. It involves climbing this.
Over 400 feet upwards in half a mile, with cobbles and hairpin bends just to make things interesting. Hard work trying to maintain much in the way of momentum between trying to keep the front wheel on the ground and the rear one stuggling to get any grip over the cobbles. Thought I was doing ok as I got round the second hairpin but was done for when the bastard got even steeper - ~30% according to strava - and I ground to a halt, defeated. Tried to get going again but promtly fell over sideways.
There is a pub at the top, fittingly called The Sportsman. No idea what it's like, but it does have a ski slope.
