I lost 2.5 stone in the last 9 months just by watching what I was eating.
It sounds daft but I found the easiest way to do it was to use the Sainsbury's own brand 'Be Good to Yourself' ready meals. They taste ok, are properly balanced meals in themslves and you know exactly how many calories you are eating each time and portion control is taken care of for you. They have a good variety ( a dozen or so) and they work out at between £1.65 and £2.50 a meal.
I ate cereal, juice and coffee for breakfast, sensible homemade sandwich, can of diet pop (Coke Zero as it happens) and some fruit for lunch, one of the ready meals and some salad for dinner with a low fat yogurt for dessert. Usual daily total was around 1500 calories.
Never felt hungry, lost weight steadily. Still went out for the occasional meal/drink or cooked myself something I fancied now and again, just didnt kick the arse out of it.
Yes the meals get repettitive after while, but thats when you go out, or cook something yourself that you want. After that, back on the diet again.
Now I just eat less without thinking about it. I'm used to eaing smaller portions and I don't feel guilty about the occasional donut or packet of crisps. Weight has stabilised at around 14 stone ( I'm 6'3") and I'm fitter and healthier than I have been for a fair few years. I'm still not exactly skinny, but I am happy with my weight now and I know I can lose more if / when I want to.
