Hi I'm new here too (sort of) great site.

Harphoto - not sure, but I'd get a normal fixed gear for commuting etc. unless you want to do tricks too?

  • Hi all,

I'm new here. My name's andrew and I'm an american who moved to london a couple of years ago, leaving my much beloved track bike back in the US. My bicycle tastes lean towards steel frames and japanese parts. I used to post on Boston FGSS back when I lived there in 2007, joined shortly after the forums were created and was posting on bikeforums before that. Anyways, I've started popping in here so I figure I should introduce myself.

  • Hi I'm new not in cycling but in fixed bikes.

would that one not be suitable for commuting as well as tricks?
i guess it could be customised to lean towards one or the other depending on what i use it for more?

  • Hi all, been following the site for several days so I thought I would join. Currently riding a fixed gear but going to begin assembling a single-speed bike. I live in kent!!

  • Hey there.
First time poster, but I lurked the site for two years or so.
Been riding fixed for about four years now and regardless that I have some other bikes I race and ride the fixed wheel is still much fun for me.
Not really into tricks though, I think that there are bikes more suitable for that.
    Keep safe!

  • Hello, first time poster. Just finished building my second fixie, taking it on its maiden voyage tonight.

  • Posting first time, cheers from Finland!

I've been into bicycles for all my life, single speed and fixed gear for few years now.
Currenty working on road bike project, looking for Campa Ergo levers and some lugged track frame too..

  • hi all :)

Started posting a while ago and people were mean to me straight away. been riding fixed for a little while now, just joined for information and the like.

  • You were lucky, they're friendly to some.

    Er .. welcome. :)

  • Hello,
Been riding fixed in North Norfolk for a year now ( thanks to St Sheldon Brown exhorting me to try one for winter riding! Don't ride anything else now ). Just done a century and booked for 200k audax in September. Desperate to do 500k in 24 hrs next year while I still can ( I'm 60 ). Any training tips?

  • hi all :)

It's just the forum's way of showing affection.

Was it after you posted your own bike in the HHSB thread?

  • Check the names and faces to bikes thread MM.

  • Been reading for a bit, but not posted much yet. Commute on a hybrid (Beckenham to City) but looking to get a fixie too.

Been to local bike shops in Becks/Bromley but they keep saying there is no demand for fixies in the area as it's too hilly!?! Anyway, 'hills' or not, I'm in the market for a bike but not sure yet if I should get a spanking shiny new one like a Charge or go the e-bay route. Hmmm, decisions.

Love the forum; great info for a wanna-be fixie :)

  • ^^ Ah.

Or have a look at the Classifieds on here - there are always frames and bikes for sale. Is your intention to start commuting on the fixed gear?

  • Yep, was planning to start commuting on it. I see quite a few fixie/SS riders going into town from the SE so figured it should be fine ... just need to remember to avoid the hill next to Dulwich college ... not sure I'd make it without dropping down the gears!

I've been checking out the classifieds, so if something crops up suitable then I might just go for it.

    ^^ Ah.

    Yeah names and faces :(

  • Hello!
I used to lurk on here a couple of years ago, since then I've moved to London and 8 months later finally made an account. I'm a mechanic at Balfe's Bikes in Kennington and over the past few weeks have met quite a people who are on here so thought I would finally make an account!

  • Hello all!
