Classic track bike build up

    Hi everyone,

after riding a couple enjoyable months with my road bike, I just decided to converted it to a singlespeed one.
Which was such a fun and a friend finally got me in to the fixed gear fever, so it was time for the first track
    bike Project!

So I sold my road bike completley and gladly found a suitable frame for my intend in a German cycling forum.
It's not the best frame for the track, actually. But it was cheap and with the right frame size.

It's a old lovely Italian road frame from the 70's I couldn't found any decals, on and under the coating, just a thiny
Record Special Cycles decal on the upper seat tube section, kind of confusing. Anyway the paint was shipin' of and
the gear lever mountings and the rest of the welded parts was gratuitous, not only the aesthetic perspective just
simply unnecessary for my plan. After bloody hours of miling, filing, grinding and re filling a couple scratches... I actually
made, it was ready for the epoxy coat and a subsequent thick primer coat.

After seeing my winkly fingers and smelling the unpleasant odor of the wet sandpaper, it was for sure ready for the paintjob :)
I found a rusty old varnish can in the garage from my vather, it was the rest varnish of Porsche (92T) Arktis-silver metallic paint,
which he used for his motorcycle. I really liked it, the silver grey had such a vintage look so I just used it for my project.

    And the paintjob was finally done, after spraying a last lovely clear coat;

After searching hours for a hubset I luckly found a cheap pair of Campagnolo Super Record Pista hubs.

I currently looking for a Campagnolo Omega Strada rim, to get the wheels done. That's it for the beginning, I guess.

Thank you very much for watching, hope you like it guys!

  • Got my 3t Gimondi bars and SR Royal RY-5ESL crankset today:

  • Omega Stradas are nice to look at but weighs a bit much. Look at the Omega 19 or 20 instead.

  • done a good job on the frame and all, but its really not deserving of the porn hubs!

  • Probably, but I'm really in to high flange hubs specialy old ones and I couldn't find any other hubs,
except some dura ace. And they where very expensive in comparison with the campa ones.

But it's currently difficult to get some campa rims.. I'm just looking around for some, if there is nothing
to catch, I'm thinking about to get some black deep v's with polished formula hubs or something like that.

And it's not the best for road either now. We all make mistakes I guess.

    lol
hope that OP is ignoring comments like that

Your right, but it's actually for the road, I will cycle from time to time on the track with it.
It's a good alternative when you couldn't find a track frame in your budget section.

But a alloy frame just for the track, would be the best. When I'm really getting into track
    cycling, I guess.

  • bb might be too low for the track.

  • Exactly, another point to get a real track frame. I ride currently 170mm cranks its still passable
for a track session. I build the wheels the next days up, and take a look at the bb height.

  • classic track build up at a road frame????

  • This thread is proper lolz.

  • classic track build up at a road frame????

A classic/ vintage look is at the moment my intend, the prepared road frame is just for the beginning. Because
I couldn't find a track frame, as I said before. I will see to get a proper one, when I'm getting into track cycling.

  • It's done! :) Some farewell photos of the bike..

  • Very nice and tidy bike :), keep up the great work and the photos.

  • Thank you! :)
