  • One problem you'll come across with old bikes is that sometimes stuff needs modifying or fabricating to fit. Since the chainguard only covers the top and one quarter of the wheel, you can just move it upwards and forwards so it's in the right position, then make up some new brackets to fit it. Brackets are easy to make with some basic household tools (although having a bench vice makes things much easier). You might even find that normal P-clips will work, with some additional bending. Then paint the brackets (avoid using primer without a topcoat; it's porous) and away you go.
