Look at this way -
A group of friends and acquaintances are chatting about bikes in a pub. They've agreed not to discuss their own. You overhear this and want to join in, and even though you know you shouldn't discuss your own, you dive in and start talking about it enthusiastically. The group look on, their expressions; bewilderment, annoyance, confusion. You finish. Silence.
