  • Near work, I see every day a real nice fixie skidder bike, good recent british frame builder, very good specs on wheels, etc... that is locked, at the same place since several month, with a middle range Kryptonite, using the Sheldon Brown method. Not saying where this is on a public forum. To me the owner is not around, gone traveling or whatever, as the bike is covered in dust and looks abandoned.
Recently I noticed the bike has been moved on the railing, lifted from the floor, maybe it's some kind of sign from someone who wants to steal it, to see if it is being moved back to the normal place? Don't know. Yesterday I tried to put it back on its two wheels on the floor in case it was the case, but failed as it was quite intricate in the railing and I did not want to look like I was myself stealing the bike. I left. Should I put a lock on it with a note with my phone number? A bit reluctant doing this it's near work and if the owner (or someone claiming to be) calls when I'm not around, they might be well upset... If the "bike moving" is the work of people with bad intentions, I don't think they would be professional thieves, otherwise I suppose it would be long gone already... Not sure what to do, can't report it as it's not stolen yet... Any thoughts?
