    In minor news, I bought a new gearknob.

    It arrived yesterday. It's made of Duracon so it should hopefully not heat up so much like my current alloy one does. There's some heat going through the transmission tunnel!

  • Similar to a 'teg type-r gearknob though as it's from tegiwa, I'm guessing its made for a Integra anyway. Good call, it looks good!

  • They do it in the correct fitment, so I'm not bodging...

    Also, they're a UK company and it's a UK part. Continuing the UKDM in-joke I'm having with my JDM friends. I'm going to try and not fit any JDM parts to this UKDM car.

  • Been searching for a photo of the sierra cosworth that had all the metal suspension and drive train parts chromed. Was in a magazine a while back and would show dammit how shiney one mans devotion to chrome is.

    Have you checked the lower and upper shift boots? They crack and perish really quickly on these cars, 'doctormx5' sells a silicone aftermarket part on eBay that's easy to fit and cures the heat/noise issue. Nice knob, where'd you get it?

  • In other news, I've bought an MG ZS 120, solely because it was cheap and had a new MOT. 0-60 in 9 seconds and it feels like a rocket ship compared to the Merc. Rather uncomfortable though. And I've been getting looks from the boy racers... ugh.

    Sad news about the merc, although the ZS isn't such a bad choice!
    Ride is a bit firm on them (the same applies to the ZR), and it's basically a rover 400, but I still think that the pre-facelift version was an ok looking car, and the K-series engines were relatively reliable excluding the headgasket issues of course..


    They were also a good laugh to watch at BTCC back in the day!

    Also, mechanically simply enough for me to work on it- with the Volvo I'm always worried that I'll touch something and the engine management will shut down and sulk.

    Not keen on the bumper or wheels but yeah the legacy is pretty awesome (I am a bit biased tho)

    Any jalopy can do that; my uncle's princess van den plas being a prime example..

  • I guess one of my motivations here is that the speed at which I'd have to fling the Volvo into a roundabout to unstick it (in the dry, at least) is so high that no sane person would attempt it. Before you ask, the handbrake is rubbish.

    So I'd like something that has very little grip, and is nicely balanced, so everything happens at low speeds.

    The Volvo is great for very fast cruising, and if I put coilovers in the back as well and dumped it, plus upgraded the ARB's it'd go round a circuit fast enough as well.

    But- again the speed at which it'd unstick then would be even higher, and the accident even bigger.
