  • I've gone from 5D to a GX1 with a 20mm pancake and the small 14mm. The main reason was size, and it truly delivers on that. The 5D often stayed at home as its so big, the GX1 always comes with me, as a result I'm getting shots I'd never get with he 5D.

That said, I miss the 5D when I'm in Lightroom. The GX1 is just not as good. But all things considered, I'm happy I did the change. More photos = better photos, esp if you do street stuff.

  • Advice please gurus - where is a really good price, uk based place to buy a 5d mk2 and a 24-70 lens

Basically the best, reliable, uk warranty place

    Thanks

    Skipper

  • Mifsuds look to be the cheapest for the body at the moment, I've used them several times wth no problems. Otherwise Warehouse Express are good.

http://camerapricebuster.co.uk/ is good for checking prices.

  • Dunno how their prices are on 5D's, but I bought my ricoh grd3 from http://cameraworld.co.uk/ and they were great at both service and price

  • This is fucking cool. Fastest man in the world, turns out he ain't such a bad photographer too:

  • went to europe, took a photograph, here's 2 of them

d90, i'm liking black and white these days

  • whoah nice, love those framed views

  • ^Second one is lush. A portrait I shot on Friday:

  • I have sold my GF2 so have a Minolta to Micro 4/3" lens adaptor plus a Minolta 55mm t1.7 and a Vivitar 135mm t2.8 lens available if anyone is interested. £50 for the lot. Definitely fits the Lumixs and as far as I know fits the Olympus PEN's as well.

  • Picked up a Fujifilm X100 yesterday. It's finicky and it'll take some getting used to, but the results are gorgeous!

I want to love that last one but shooting night-time handheld just didn't quite work for that shot. ISO3200 and f/2 still couldn't save it from a little blur. Shame.

  • Favour to ask folks.

Does anyone have a 77mm variable ND (for canon L zooms) i could borrow for Sunday? It would be much appreciated.

    Cheers. Theo

love 1st and last, id really like an x100 so i could always carry a good camera but it would have to replace my dslr... which isn't happening

  • Here's a few I took in the Arashiyama bamboo forest today.

It's a shame I'm having to upload off my phone (my only internet connection!) because even the Flickr app seems to resize things. The detail in the full photos is gorgeous.

Lizard and water-bucket-guy are my favourites and they were both chance shots. Having a good camera you can carry around without it being a hindrance is fucking AMAZING.

  • ^ lovely stuff! Makes me want to fiddle with my settings (I'm running with a really washed out / muted setup at the mo)

  • Jadias, it definitely is not an instant results camera, in my experience. I really struggled with it for the first few weeks, particularly when trying to shoot it like my Nikon DSLRs. I have had much better results since shooting it fully manual (bar autofocus) - including no auto ISO and no auto DR. In aperture priority (my go-to shooting mode) I found it has a tendency to over-expose. In manual, by riding the exposure triangle and watching the meter (which also seems a bit more skittish than my D700) I am getting far better results.

It is a camera which really shines if you have time to set up a shot. Sure, you can use it like a point-and-shoot but there are faster-focussing compacts with smaller sensors which will yield better grab shots.

  • Once you get the hang of it, it's a brilliant camera.

It's more like a rangefinder than DSLR (and I'm aware that it doesn't have a rangefinder in it), it's fantastic for touring as I've recently used it for.

Interesting. It seems most people trust the auto ISO and DR (mainly because it's so good down to ISO3200) so I've gone with them so far, except when shooting at night. I've been using mainly Aperture Priority mode but will kick it into full manual when needed. It definitely has a tendency to over-expose - my exposure compensation is almost always set to about -2/3.

It definitely seems to come into its own when you can take the time to fully compose a shot (and, currently, bracket a lot!). That said, the quicker shots I took - the lizard, say - came out very well too. I've seen some stunning street photography out of if, too.

  • Sorry to bombard the thread with photos!

Sadly I was stuck in my apartment, but I couldn't resist. Wish I had a better view!

    ISO100, 10-15 sec, f/5.6

Dunno how I forgot to clone stamp out the power line in the second one... I've done it now but can't be bothered to go through the hassle of transferring and reuploading...

  • ^Very nice, dude! Not tried any long exposures with mine yet...

Here's a diptych I knocked up in Lightroom, from X100 RAWs. Art-loving Londoners - do you know where this is??

And another from a while ago which I forgot to post anywhere, from D700:

  • Recent bobs and bits from what now seems to be turning in to an actual job.
All Pentax K5 and either 35, 50 or 77 prime lenses.

  • I'm downsizing! Not sure whether I'll go for a G12 or GX1 or something else altogether (although I don't want to lose having a proper viewfinder!).

So as will be appearing in classifieds shortly, I have the following up for grabs:

Boxed Canon 5D mk.i with BG-E4 battery grip, batteries, charger etc. - £500
The one owner before me used it pretty sparsely, and it reads 2969 now, so I reckon it's probably only on a shutter count of just under 13,000 - plenty of life left in it!

    Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM - £500
In good nick, I have the soft case and a Canon lens hood knocking about somewhere I should be able to dig out, too.

    Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM - £400
Lovely wide-angle lens, and L quality without breaking the bank, can't go wrong! Canon lens hood for this one too.

    Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG - £250
Boxed, with hood and in a case. The lens I had on the 5D most, much nicer than Canon's equivalent IMO, nice bokeh according to some nerdy friends. 77mm filter like the two aforementioned Canons.

    Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 DG APO - £80
Budget telephoto, does the job well enough for 80 quid! Comes with a UV filter.

    Thanks!

  • I have had the worst luck with DSLRs and digital cameras in general. When my mum upgraded to a 5D Mk II she gave me her old 40D. Second time I removed the SD card and replaced it one of the pins got bent :(

Then my G10 got smushed between 2 theatre chairs at a Grizzly Bear concert.

I went back to my Rolleiflex and Pentax. When money runs out for film/dark room fees I just sob and Instagram.
