@brave in uni i lived with a gent who was given a feline companion with multiple issues.his "gifted problem" was deemed chronically obese, cyctic, lathargic etc and not expected to survive 6months.
he went to lots of trouble, research with vet friends, diet specialists and homeopaths etc and concluded that boiled chicken thighs, deboned and mixed with 1/3 quanity of brown rice was infact the best thing - when i met the cat it was 12 months into its special diet - playful, bright eyed, if a bit paunchy from excessive weight loss.

That's a really interesting table. Been thinking more about cat food now we'll have an extra two mouths to feed...

We have lost 20 ducks in the past few weeks to the foxes.
To solve this by brother went out and shot the fox and his family
The gamekeeper I used to work with took the subject of pest management very seriously, so many stories unsuitable for this thread...
My grandad had one solitary chicken named obi-wan who evaded several generations of foxy long after all the others were snaffled.

I'm surprised it doesn't include Hills, James Wellbeloved or Royal Canin.

So we went to a cat sanctuary yesterday to see what kittens there were, perhaps with a view to thinking about getting one, but mainly to cheer ourselves up by looking at cute kittens. Big mistake! A bit like going shopping when hungry.
So now we will be welcoming these TWO cuties into our furry family:
We did go to have a look at the top kitten as we'd seen her pic on the internet. When we got there the staff explained that she had a sister and they were really close so they wanted to home them together, though they would split if necessary. However, after we saw them eat together, play together and then curl up on top of each other to go to sleep we couldn't split them up so reserved both. So that will be 4 cats and a dog. We really are becoming the mad cat ladies...
I think it's much kinder (for yourselves too) to adopt kittens in pairs. Celia Hammond Rescue only let you do this in fact.
They're cute! Didn't realise you live oop north :)

Amazon, there's a standard and wide version. I bought the standard version as he was a small kitteh when he arrived, but he could probably do with a wide one now he's grown. Doesn't stop him spending most of the daylight hours in it though, he loves it.
It was also a good way to stop him sleeping on our bed, although he still comes for cuddles in the morning. At the moment they are using is more as a spring board or ledge for jumping on to the blinds.
Hopefully one day they'll settle down and sleep in it.
Thanks Claire!

Cheers! Yes, I'm a Mancunian.
I think the pairs thing is to avoid lone cats, no? No danger of that with us given that we already have two. :)
We passed our house inspection yesterday so we will be all kittened up next week.

It's also so they don't spend all their time bugging the existing cat for affection or play.
Ha - yes, I felt like I was being inspected by social services!
I'm in the process of introducing the kittens to the older animals this week. It'll be good when the rascals aren't confined to the one room. SO far they've seen the 'big cat' and the dog but not had any interaction...

Higgs is still living outdoors.
I am wondering whether this will improve when Tesla works out how to go down the cat pole, and enters Higgs outdoor territory- will Higgs respond by coming back inside?
-
• #3572
Scintilla has also been spending more time outside but she's sleeping upstairs on my mother's bed. I feel like I have betrayed her, though she is curious about the small fluffy things which I think is a good sign.
I expect Higgs will come back eventually Dammit. Are you giving her any treats when she does come in?
-
• #3573
Trying, however she's always been prone to stuffing herself with all available food, then throwing up on the nearest rug (we switched to using food feeding balls instead of bowls to slow her eating down, which turned the vomiting from a daily event to a once in a while event) so the treat thing might just come back at us, literally.

Oh yeah, forgot she did that. Hmm, difficult.

..
Looks like our kitty, who is a lot of fun.
Thanks crank_girl.. her cystitis cleared immediately after we switched foods and gave her the Science Diet cystitis specific (both dry and wet). Once a week we give her "treat of the week" which is a normal wet food along with her biscuits.. It's just she HATES the Science diet wet food and hardly touches it. I figured giving her a mix of the dry food and normal wet food would be OK but just needed that reassurance.
