If you make it in Autocad and make a DWG or DXF, you can import/read that in Illustrator and save it as an EPS or AI file in less than 1 minute.
Easiest would be to have an excellent picture (with indications of final dimensions) and Live Trace it in Illustrator.

Is Illustrator a difficult program to learn/use?
I'm not a computer person - I can draught and model in Autocad and make a spreadsheet and that's about it.
But I can draw (old school art school) and I can be very patient/obsessive.
Does it help that the version above is 90% there and just needs some tweaking or is it a case of 'I wouldn't start from here'?
