Wanted: Campagnolo wire thing-a-me-bob

Posted on
  • I want to service the freehub on an older Campag Vento wheel and need to get hold of one of those wire clips that Campagnolo initially supplied with the wheel that holds the pawls in place as you reassemble.....can anyone help or point me in the right direction where to buy one?

  • do you mean the hair spring that holds the pawls in tension, or the gadget that Campag supplied for reassembly?
It is easy enough to reassemble the free hub without the gadget, using a sharp pointed stick (with a bit of practice)

  • not the hair springs but the wire clip to reassemble.....I found it much simpler to use than trying to retain the pawls by pushing each one individually (I've got fingers like a pack of sausages!)

  • I did this yesterday, just secure the end of the hair spring in the hole, then wrap the rest round top of the free hub so it doesn't snap into the channel.

Then you can pop the pawls in one by one, moving the hair spring down to hold each one as you go.

I used a 1mm Alan key to hook under the wire.

    Takes maybe 20 seconds.

  • depends if older or newer style of retention spring(s)

old style - each pawl has a coiled spring behind it - a real PITA!

new style - single circular spring with each pawl resting inside it - easy comparatively.

saxby, I got a spring tool from wilsons of sheffield, they have an ebay site > http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=&_osacat=7294&_trksid=m570.l3201&_nkw=spring+tool&_sacat=7294

    also - old threads here > http://www.lfgss.com/thread78357.html & http://www.lfgss.com/thread79412.html

  • thanks gents I'll try once again as i..... if not will contact Wilsons
