Old: World famous Olypmic Media Centre (to the left)
New: It's very humid outside today, I might take a quick shower, but a bath would by nicer.

The land where the Media Centre is, was quite a good spot for mountain biking I believe. It may have been part of Lea Valley and there were really good hills and long tracks. I rode there in 2001 on a hire bike so I may be wrong.
Congrats MinhDinh :) great to see a tag from you. Thanks for starting such an ace game!
Thank you. I have always wanted to do a tag and I have been back cycling for 3 weeks. I have my phases where I don't get on my bicycle for months. The bike in the tag is my first SS which I got a shop to convert it about 4 days a go. Bought for 15 quid off ebay, needed new wheels for 40 quid, and 15 quid to convert it at a shop! I am really enjoying riding without gears finally!

Wasn't it part of the Eastway Cycle Track?
On that note, isn't there meant to be a replacement for that inbuilt into the Olympic park?

I am not sure. Perhaps you are right. I remember riding on grassy hills etc... but maybe that was near by.
YouTube on the track:

Not sure how to embed it. OK NM it's Auto embedded.

Hooray, MinhDinh got a tag!
I know this one! Anyone for a joint tag? I shall be there in 10 mins!
I would have loved to join you for this one, but I wasn't in London.
Wasn't it part of the Eastway Cycle Track?
No, that was further away (on the other side of the River Lea--NB the waterway in the picture is the Lea Navigation, not the river).
The area on which the Olympic Media Centre now stands was called Arena Field and was once used as playing fields for Gainsborough School (there was an old bridge across the canal there to get to them, which will be replaced in the legacy.
On that note, isn't there meant to be a replacement for that inbuilt into the Olympic park?
There will be the new VeloPark, which I've just heard will open in January 2014 (originally scheduled to open in late 2013, let's hope it doesn't slip any further). This will feature a road racing circuit built around the velodrome.

This is hard! Was at Olympic Park this morning and then had lunch in Hackney so was convinced we could be near it. Messenger Face pointed out that the new tag could be a tag Doktor P had shot earlier rather than after getting today's iyswim...but that's not bike tag/cricket is it?

You are right, new tag was taken yesterday, before I got home and found out I was beaten by 30min.
To be fair, I did came back to the same place again, thinking of a picture from a different angle, but didn't take one. -

Oliver knows his history! I assumed it was a cycle track.

well done Doctor Cake!
Welsh Harp reservoir (Brent Reservoir) built 1834 to provide water for the Grand Union Canal- believed to be the scene of the first official cycle race in Britain, 1st June 1868, the day after the St Cloud one in Paris.
- there was a velodrome of sorts built on the west of the lake north of the bridge (in my pic it's roughly where the trees poke up above the bridge). I think you can see this on Google Earth's 'timeline' satellite images from 1945, though it could also be the circuit shaped trees visible on today's satellite images
- and then there's the curious link to James Moore - winner of the first Paris-Rouen race 1869. Legend has it that he is buried somewhere around the lake although the exact location is a mystery
neat summary here:
http://www.gracesguide.co.uk/Arthur_Markham
http://www.brentcyclists.org.uk/content/brents-parks-and-open-spacesI know I'm a bit late since the game has moved well on, but for anyone interested in the link between my tag and oat 44's tag, here's some information about the cycle track that is no more at the Paddington Recreation Grounds.
The recreation grounds were developed off the back of Queen Victoria's golden jubilee, partly as a way to create work in the area since there was a recession.
Five hundred men, of almost al trades, were employed for ten weeks it building the Ground. 35,000 yards of clay, 2,800 yards of ballast, 40,000 loads of rubbish were removed, and 1,300 yards of ashes laid to form the Grounds. A well turfed cricket field, tennis courts, a splendid cinder cycling track and a handsome pavilion with a terraced roof was constructed. Owing to Mr Beachcroft's generosity, the whole of the Fund for Relieving the Unem*ployed was paid in wages. He was responsible for all materials (about £2,500) and maintenance costs.

http://www.crestcyclingclub.org.uk/tracks.htmlCricket and tennis still happen, but unfortunately the cycle track is now gone.

^ interesting that. On satellite view, it looks like you can still see where the old track went - the longish stretch of dry grass between the wicket and Grantully Road seems to correlate with the old map you linked to.

Yet again I have a day off and it's not raining but have no idea where that tag is.
I wanna play...

It's less when a minute away from there I've spotted you last time. Sooo close.
All you have to do is remember there and when.. and look around.
Congrats MinhDinh :) great to see a tag from you. Thanks for starting such an ace game!
