  • In the Volvo world we have the G80 locker, which is £200-£300.

Or buy a complete car with one in for £100 and then get the scrapper to take the carcass away.

Why- so you don't spin away what little power you have through the inside wheel

  • i know how they work.

  • If you want cheap sideways action try and find a BMW 525 manual they are brilliant. Lovely and controllable as they are so long and stable to drift and with enough power to brake traction beautifully.

  • Spriget?

  • BRM- why don't you think an LSD would be a good idea?

i think that it's a waste of time in a morris minor.

  • That may well be true. Would you fit one in the MGB?

    998cc....

A40 or A35 now you can them sideways.....use cheap plasticy tyres, or very old rubber.

  • if i found a cheap 2nd hand one. i probably would\t bother, though. most of my sideways action comes in the rain.

there's loads of stuff you can do that would make a bigger difference. head work/cam/filters, exhaust, etc

  • Engine conversions are fairly prevailent in the Moggy world. Either put a bigger A-series in it or you can even go k-series or fiat twincam fairly easily! With a bit more power they make a great sleeper and can be made to handle pretty well!

    that's my trick.

    speaking of tyres.
dammit - are you heading to your folks any time soon?

  • These guys have done some great modded moggies. The low light cabby is amazingly well built. I also love the lada they did as well!

  • he must have a fortune sunk in that! i thought we were talking cheap?

  • Probably next weekend Richie, need to source a van though as picking up some of my grandparents bits and bobs.

The fulvia runs michellin x's and they great.

Yeah but you need work to the bulk heads, brakes, gearbox, and the whole drivetrain. Then something strong enough to hold it together.

cool, dude - i'll need to pop up at some point this week, so i'll give you a knock.

Well if you were going to do an engine swap, of course you'd do gearbox too
and you'd have to do a bit of fab work. still relatively simple though.

  • That is brutal!

  • Richie, you have to arrive for the next Fucktones gig in this:

  • Anyone any experience with VW T4 1.9TD engine? Are they really anaemic? Looking at campers

  • The engine is a good one, but don't think it meets LEZ. Friend is an engine killer, flat out driving with vans loaded, and this one last 6 years with him and doing regular trips to Italy. Had its head gasket replaced and was not the same till the diesel pump was reset by a specialist. This is van form so campers are slower as they are heavy.

The 4x4 version engine and drive train is unique and if the engine blows other TD engines, such as the passat, fit but the gearing is to low and the engine is on the rev limiter all the time.

  • Looks like I'm going to sell my W123 200D. It's simply too slow for my 70-mile-a-day commute; it's fine once you get up to speed, but you have to thrash it not to get constantly tailgated, and I've had quite a few close calls with dangerous overtakers in just a couple of months. My commute is on one of those really nasty A-roads where everyone drives at 60+mph and peppered by roundabouts (I go through 22 a day), loads of hills that it really struggles up (45mph when everyone else is doing 65), and there's loads of farm traffic. Overtaking tractors when you car does 0-60 in 25 seconds is really quite stressful.

Stunningly good car apart from the lack of power. I'd get another one in an instant, but only if it had the 3-litre diesel (0-60 in about 12 seconds).

In other news, I've bought an MG ZS 120, solely because it was cheap and had a new MOT. 0-60 in 9 seconds and it feels like a rocket ship compared to the Merc. Rather uncomfortable though. And I've been getting looks from the boy racers... ugh.
