  • If you're getting a clank when you do that your tyres are considerably under infllated.

    What rims you running anyway because unless you have out and out racing rims (ie <13mm) then you can fit a wider tyre on than a 28mm
    Even a sub 13mm rim will take wider in any case, I've run an Open 4 CD rear with a 32mm tyre on a loaded commuter for several hundred miles (I weigh 16 stone btw!). looks really wrong and the consensus is a deffo no but I rode it into corners at 20mph+ and not a hint of squirm
    An open pro which is wider at 15mm will comfortably take a 32mm.as will these

    the sputniks you mention are quite frankly overkill and for heavily laden touring only IMO
