  • Doing my First Evar Audax this weekend - Barbury Bash 110k, fixed. I am excite. Will hopefully go some way to making up for missing the Dunwich Dynamo.

  • I need se serious audax mileage now that you mentioned it, is there any other audax ride that other from here are riding in?

  • Getting a Denton touring bike delivered tomorrow. Very excited thinking of the ride's it'll be used on-going up to Skye mid july so will definitely be taking on the Applecross peninsula and Bealach Mor routes.

You've just missed the National 400 mate.

  • Not surprise as I got a bit of commitment in the recent past weeks, now the next month will be slightly freer.

  • What about the Sussex Corker Ed - http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/12-302/

Not a major distance but a reasonably hilly ride - get a few more AA points.

Most of the long Audaxs seem to occur earlier i the year, so we have a few perm 400 and 600s booked in for the Wessex SR series!

  • This is in the diary as well - http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/12-933/ The Old 240 400km AA ride!

Aaaand it turns out that the wire bead has exploded out of the sidewall of my tyre and needs to be replaced. I don't have a spare. No audax for me. I feel like strangling somebody :(

    That looks amazing!

  • Just entered the Monty 300 in three weeks on the back of completing Dunwich Dynamo, my first 300k and on fixed - absolutely cacking myself...

  • I've entered the Cambridge 100 on the second of September; an easy distance to pop my Audax cherry and flat enough to not worry about gearing.

Does anyone else fancy forming a forum contingent? I'll be driving up from London so would be glad of the company and petrol money.

  • Anyone up for joining me on the rutland ramble?
    Might post an ride thread.
I'll be going at a steady pace, aiming to finish

  • First 300k yesterday - 18.5 hours...

Dropping from 48x13 to 48x14 at 200k was a great idea*

Low point: being mistaken for Seldom Killer
High point: being mistaken for Seldom KIller :)

    • on 20" Moulton wheels, so not a butch as it sounds
  • 48x13???????

  • Graeme,

Really sorry about that. Not sure why this sort of thing happens (you're not alone). I'm not a prolific rider and have only done a few rides on fixed. My reputation rather seems to exceed me. It's a little disconcerting.

    TSK

  • 48x13???????

...on a Moulton, so it's only actually 67"

  • ^phew! Thought you were some sort of super human haha

  • Did my first Audax ride yesterday. This one

    http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/12-82/

I normally ride 47 x 18 round town but decided to drop it down to 47 x 19 (68 gear) to tackle the hills and the longer distance. It was seriously hilly and probably would have struggled with a much lower ratio. But I made it to the end and managed to add an extra 20km from getting lost. Definitely didn't eat and drink enough and wondered if I'd make it on many occasions.

The weather was superb though and the views were stunning. Going through the little Kent villages gave a wonderful touring feel to it but I think I'll go for flat one next time.

I've just read that you need to apply for a separate card to get the fixed wheel points so don't think I'll get those. So I'll bear that in mind for the next one. Plus map mounting and bottle cage. Big thanks to Google Maps for helping me out when I got lost. Oh and 3G connections out in the country.

    Thinking about this one next

    It's around London.

  • Good work. Audax can be quite addictive...

Shouldn't be a problem, a lot of the FWC stuff is about honesty. Send off for the FWC card (it's only £1 and an SAE) and then add the ride yourself (leave the signature box blank). I always filled in the card myself when I forgot to take it on the ride or get it from my bag at the end.

If you don't want to sign it yourself then get the FWC card anyway and contact the organiser of that recent ride (Billy) and ask him if he remembers you riding fixed and will sign it for you, if he says yes you can post it to him with an SAE so that he can do that and post it back.

It'll be worth it for the 3 FWC points (1 for the distance, 2 for the AAA points for the climbing).

Also, don't forget to submit your end of season total to the FWC organiser so that you can get your moment of fame in the handbook.

  • ^^Kids Toys! What a one to start on!

I hear it's a pretty challenging Grimpeur du Sud.

I'm considering doing the London sightseer as a way to introduce my girlfriend to audax :)

  • Nice one Arup, I wasn't brave enough to try that ride and you deserve those FWC points. I have my first audax in nice flat Cambridgeshire this Sunday instead : )

Thats an excellent idea - I'll try the same with my girlfriend, though I'm not sure how easy it is to get a non Audax member entry??

If she agres to enter (she won't) and enjoys it (she won't) then i can only assume she'll be keen to enter the LEL (she won't).

  • She says she'll do it, but with one condition...http://flickriver.com/photos/42945203@N00/3832698177/

  • may I suggest

  • ^^Haha has to be done!
