• In bits about this. So sad, so wrong and such a bloody waste.
    RIP Dan

  • RIP Dan

    A such terrible loss

  • Very interesting tweet here from Standard's Chief News Correspondent: https://twitter.com/RossLydall/status/231146977805623296

  • I've been thinking about this awful news all day (whilst trying to ignore the tedious helmet debate) and just read some of Dan's blog and his tweets from just Tuesday. Heartbreaking. Possibly all the more so as it happened in parallel with and yet in such contrast to the Brits' Olympic triumphs.

  • thoughts and prayers for dan, his family and friends.

  • as oliver and charlie have said the A12 and other such urban motorways always cause death and lots of other troubles.

    really bad planning.

  • So very sorry to read about this in the news this morning. RIP Dan.

    Ride safe you guys.

  • Very sad to hear this. My thoughts are with Dan's family and friends.

  • Terrible news. RIP Dan.

  • Enough donations already received for flowers to be placed.

Anyone donating in Dan's name from here out is basically using me as a proxy to give to Road Peace. You can alternatively just donate direct to them: http://www.roadpeace.org/donate/

    Good Morning everyone
This is a wonderfully touching gesture, thank you for rallying to donate for a wreath for Dan. Everyone who knew him at our company (BBH, Dan's previous employer) & Moo will be very heartened by the unity of the cycling community I am sure.
We will be doing something in his honour when the grief is a little less raw, and would love your further support.
Best wishes, and continue to ride safe, keep Dan's legacy of booing a few red light jumpers alive too.

  • Riding over to place these was hard.

  • Just ridden past. Thank you for placing flowers.

  • Thanks VB

    +1.

I am sure Dan's family and friends, who must be devastated, will be eternally grateful.

  • The eyewitness account was not made up. My son was behind the poor chap when this happened, and went under the bus to comfort him. He later wrote an account, trying to say, how we all need to be careful out there. Lots of bloggers and journalists tried to contact him, and so he thought to remove the blog. He only did what we all think we would do in the circumstance. He doesn't want to talk about it to anyone, and regrets even doing the blog.
When the white bike is placed there, he said he might join me and pay his respects.
Really sad to see all the messages and hear about Daniel's life, and just becomes doubly tragic.

Before the Olympics even started we noticed the lack of cycle lanes on any plans.

Which when you think, is it that "the powers that be", really! aren't interested in the cycling community. Do they think, we are on the margins of society and not to be included. It's so annoying and frustrating at the same time

  • RIP Dan. This is all so so sad. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.

  • My thoughts are also with ive2dogs and his son. Witnessing this tragedy must have been very traumatic.
Hope I never see anything like it.
