So that turned out to be a bit epic - mostly thanks to some sketchy navigation after my garmin gave up the ghost late last night. Have concluded that:
we should definitely get the train out to Iver (never want to ride out through Harlington ever again);
the route from Marlow over Chilterns is amazing whatever the weather;
the Thames Valley get a bit samey after a while.
I gave up on the idea of Lechlade, and retraced my steps to Clifton Hampden, which is a lovely stretch of river, has a pub and shop, is close to the train at Didcot. Still 70 miles from S London (50 if you get the train to Iver)
