Welsh Harp reservoir (Brent Reservoir) built 1834 to provide water for the Grand Union Canal
believed to be the scene of the first official cycle race in Britain, 1st June 1868, the day after the St Cloud one in Paris.
there was a velodrome of sorts built on the west of the lake north of the bridge (in my pic it's roughly where the trees poke up above the bridge). I think you can see this on Google Earth's 'timeline' satellite images from 1945, though it could also be the circuit shaped trees visible on today's satellite images
and then there's the curious link to James Moore - winner of the first Paris-Rouen race 1869. Legend has it that he is buried somewhere around the lake although the exact location is a mystery
