Converting to 650c front wheel

Posted on
  • Right.... I have this stupid idea in my head that I really want to go 650c front wheel and forks on my bike.
    Said Bike...

(I swear the seat doesn't look that floppy in real life!)

My thinking is that as the frame is already rediculously small, I could almost make it into some kind of faux-pro slave sled and at the same time reduce pedal overlap.

Will I be more prone to pedal strike? Am I going to ruin my bike?
    Someone save me from myself.

    Thanks.

Something akin to this could happen.

  • Constant downhill innit.

  • Would it really look that bad?

  • It'll make your saddle angle worse.

  • Do a bike cad and see what it looks like.

I would think you will get pedal strike. But there is only one way to truly find out what it's like.

    I vote yes.

  • Yes for doing it or yes that it'll ruin it?!

  • You'll need a bigger chainring.

Cuz right now the top of your chain is flat. If you lower the front end it will slope forwards. Angering the bike gods.

  • ...and more setback on your saddle.

  • ...and your quil stem raising.

  • What about if I want that fashionable nosedive stance. Can I not just keep my stem at the height it is or, dare I say it, lower it, thus giving me the aggressive seat to bar drop that I so desperately crave?!

  • Would be easier to reduce your rise, by not running risers I'd say.

But I'm old, what do I know.

  • I helped my friend convert his track bike to a 650c front, it feels like all your weight is on the handlebars, pedal strike was also a problem, he returned back to 700c after a day or two

  • Yes for doing it or yes that it'll ruin it?!

    Yes to both.

  • Would it really look that bad?

give it a try but i think the fit will be a great issue here..

  • Thanks for the input guys, I think you've managed to talk me out of it! Will try and get a HHSB front wheel to divert my attention instead!
