  • lolz luckyskull anyone would think you and this bike had some bad history or something ;-)

  • ha, sorry........it goes back to a time i borrowed a friends bike while on holiday in Berlin. it had a stupid silly spinney clown gear ratio. one of the least enjoyable days riding i have ever had.......i guess it touched a nerve.......

  • Fixed silly gearing is awful but freewheel singlespeed isn't so bad...just trying to remember what ratio he runs. Could be 36/14 which is okay really.

  • i doubt it will be 14, unless its a bmx hub. smallest is 16.......it would be better if it was fixed then you could skid..........but anyway, at least its a bike and not a car..........

  • A friend's beater and has to be deserving of a place here..?

The thread title includes beaters. It's a beater.

Plus it looks like its been knocked together in a true budget DIY style. In what sense is it out of place.

Much better than a load of stickers, or worse still nice bikes with fucked paintwork from being locked with bare chains because their riders are just too fucking edgy.

  • Not sure if its a re-post, but oh well...

...Also i think its a Brother steel track?

  • A friend's beater and has to be deserving of a place here..?

I love my bike! It's 34x18 on the back. I tried 16, but it wouldn't work unless I added a chain tensioner. I live up a 13% hill, and take my weekly shopping up in a 50L rucksack on this beauty!

She was my main bike, then my training bike, now my rat. The only original parts left are the frame, stem, handlebars, shifters. If I show her some TLC on the wrap, then you'll be happy luckyskull?

  • ha, hills! totally understandable then. though it looks like you still have a slack chain...... sorry for bashing your bike. for London your ratio would not cut the mustard........like i said before, any bike on the road means one less car, that makes me happy.

  • That's a lower ratio than what i'm using on my s-s mtb!

  • rat/beater bikes have something that makes them special

    Who knew?

i doubt it will be 14, unless its a bmx hub. smallest is 16...

16t is the smallest SS cog for a cassette hub? Tell me more...

  • is that a cassette hub?

  • is that a cassette hub?

Yep, the single speed spacer kit was cheaper than a new dropout hanger last time my derailleur took a smash!

I hate spinning less than I hate going slowly; it's good training on the flat. I spin at 140 in short bursts, usually more like 120.

  • Would of thought it would be pretty cheap to put gears back on with some mtb bars and shifters?

  • then miro i stand corrected, it can go down to 11......

  • I think you can all climb back out of his arse now.

  • chill out, we were discussing bikes. that's what the forum is for......and i for one have never been in the arse of Luke.

  • I only joined today, I think I like this forum! I've perused the odd thread now and again, even met some members on the Dunwich dynamo a few weeks ago but now I've finally joined I think I'm hooked :)

My Addict R3 has a full ultegra. But I don't lock that up at Sainsbury's with a £4.99 wire lock from Halfords!

  • Oops, R2 not R3 before anyone catches me out....

  • and welcome to the forum Luke.

  • Personally i would stick some risers on it, then some toe clips/straps and give it a few more gear inches, would make a fun bike.

  • what has been seen...

  • Rather they put a rack on another frame, but i still like it

any one know what rack that is?

  • Duct tape fixes every thing?

  • ergo, fixie bike
