60cm top tube. 60cm bb to seat.

Lovely gents Gitane bicycle from the late 70's/Early 80's. Half chrome forks and fork lugs.*

I have built it up as a randonneur with Velo Orange Porteur handlebars and Dia Compe reverse levers on a 3TTT stem.*

The chain set is the original Sugino Maxy with drilled lightweight rings. It looks fantastic - much like some of the period stronglight kit. The pedals are Weco with Christophe Special toe clips. No straps sorry.*

The wheels are mavic clinchers laced to Milland high flange hubs. They have had the bearings replaced and greased but the rear needs to be tried by 3mm.*

Simplex prestige rear mech, front and downtube band on shifters in good order. New inner and outer cables all round.*

The paintwork is consummate with age. Not mint but not bad. Lots of small scratches on rear stays and a few bigger bits here and there. The chrome is excellent.*

She's a great bike to ride. Nippy but relaxed. The removable gear hanger and lack of braze ons makes her a great candidate for single / fixed conversion. *

Happily post £30 or for collection from East London.*

    Thanks again. Pm for dibs!!

  • My Bad, the wheels are 700c

  • looks like the Tour De France model

    any Reynolds 531 sticker?

    any Reynolds 531 sticker?

Sadly no 531 sticker hence price. It's identical to the TDF model with exception of the rear drop outs which are not honeycomb. It's a lot lighter than gas pipe or 501 though.

I've got the original ideale saddle which is pretty rough but free with the bike if wanted.

  • Back up for grabs.

The front shifters are not great - they loosen off on the rear. The mechs are tiptop though. Will require a tweak if keeping it as a geared bike.

  • sweet bike at a tip top price, in the unlikely event of a split i would be keen to take the bars........just putting it out there

  • I have sent a pm but not received an answer about buying the frame set but I will take it without bars if you want them PR.

  • Will consider a split tomorrow see what the interest in the whole bike is first. I'll shout back in the evening.

  • Offering this as a frameset only now:

UPDATED: measurements - I have now measured with a tape rather than a ruler.... :P and have it as 57 from bottom bracket to c of top tube and centre of the seat post to centre of headtube.

I have included more pictures of condition etc. Frame/Forks/Headset and BB weigh 3.9kg which may/may not help with frame material ID.

BB is sugino but headset unknown. Date of frame c1978

£90 - any interest. Based just off Hackney Road, E2
