• Vee Vee there is a big difference. That young lady was around the age of my daughters and that is why I was concerned that my comment may have been patronising in the literal sense. This woman was closer to my age and, from the abuse that she yelled, somewhat more patronising than me and also a rather stuck up bint who thought herself somehow better than a fat bloke on a bike.

  • Maybe it was her cat that I killed.

  • Leave a big shit on her car bonnet.

  • Or tell her, at some length, about your arse and its place in medical history.

  • Show her pictures too. That'll teach her.

Sorry I didn't realise she was old! You should have said "prissy old bitch" in your first post. ;)

  • Or,deracinate the door going through all the way, if downhill should help.

  • So I went and there she was, one of the organisers wandering around like Lady Muck displaying her philathropy for all to see.

I asked my neighbour who she was. "Oh, that's Marian, she's lovely" I was told.

    I said nothing.

Am I getting mild in my old age?

  • You left the poo on her bonnet though, right?

  • And I ended up "winning" a long weekend in a cottage in the Peak District which will, at least, give me some intense hill training.

    Of course not.

    Just on the windscreen.

wrong, coil one onto the air intake section of the car, next time she turns on the heating she will get the smell of freshly baked stale shit.

  • Master^

  • and then more and more people will be attracted by that kind of philanthropy.

"This has almost happened to me another 10 times, once a year."

    Hm.

  • I got car doored pretty badly a few weeks ago in Loughborough Junction. Unfortunately I was in pretty bad shock and neglected to get the registration plate. The driver stopped 100m short of a red light and the passneger opened his door into a bike lane. I messed up the front end of my bike and am trying to get money from her. I only got her name, email and phone. Since I sent her the crash quote she said her insurer would be in contact with me. This is now 3 weeks ago. Is there anything I can do?

  • phone her I reckon, harder to ignore a call than an email. She's probably just being lazy hoping it'll go away if she doesn't follow it up.

I got taken out about 18mths ago by a car turning across me into a side road right as i was going straight ahead..typical "sorry mate i didn't see you"...i was so glad to be alive i didn't properly check my bike or get any details, just wondered off in a daze to find out later my frame was completely fucked...so you did well to at least get a number, name and email.

  • i'm pretty sure i've read someone saying this in here (apologies if not and if i'm saying shit) but apparently being doored is a criminal offense and not just a traffic offense. i know nothing of law, but my understanding is that being doored would account as attempted murder in some way (which in my view is way much worse than getting away with paying to fix your bike back, especially if you had injuries). of course, i'd imagine you'd need to register this with the police at the time, so saying this is kinda totally pointless now anyway.

now, i've been semi-doored (due to ninja skills i managed to avoid a direct hit, only scratched my hand/arm/leg on the door) by a passenger who opened the door when the lights changed to green and the only 2 cars in front started moving. so my best advice is: pay way more attention to people inside the car or jumping from behind buses, always. paying for a new bike is cheap if compared with a bad crash even if it's some other idiot's fault -- your body will suffer the consequences anyway.

  • I had a car pull straight out in front of me, I hit the side of her and went straight over the bonnet putting my forks back past my down tube. Luckily I had a witness and I called the police. Took a while though. I just kept phoning her up.

  • I don't have any witnesses apart from that it happened outside a doctors' surgery as they had an appointment there. I went in after the accident to get my finger sorted out.

She's admitted liability in the e-mails between us though. What's the best move now? I'll try calling in the morning. I said in the last email that I wouldn't be sending anymore and that I'd be contacting the police.

That's all I can do right?

  • It's an offence.

No person shall open, or cause or permit to be opened, any door of a vehicle on a road so as to injure or endanger any person.

    from here.

  • Thanks for that. It's in the highway code as well. I know she was 100% in the wrong, she also knew that at the time. But she appears to be hoping the issue will just disappear.
