HED Ardennes, Rigida Snyper, A23, H+sons Archetype, Stans Alpha all have internal widths of 17.5mm and would be my choice for audax riding on 25c tyres. You'll be able to get away with fewer spokes then most keeping things at bit lighter (and more aero).
Carbon clinchers still have issues with heating up and exploding tubes. It's not scar-mongering, it happens.
