• The Pros are on Tubs, not clinchers. It's like comparing Apples and Oranges.

Indeed. I meant they are still braking on carbon, but I suppose those 'wheel falling apart incidents' don't happen to brand new wheels, I guess they've generally been ridden at least a bit.

Obviously they will be more aero but will you really feel the benefit of this during audax paced rides?

    Unlikely :)

    Fox, have you considered tubs?

Not for long. I know you're less likely to puncture, but clinchers are so much easier to fix if you do. Tubs on long unsupported rides really wouldn't make sense, right..?

But then I've never used them in the rain.

They will get used in the rain. Definitely.

Thanks all for your input, it was really helpful. I don't think carbon rims are for me basically. I want to be able to stop properly and what dan said about ride quality also got me thinking.

I'm thinking about Ksyrium SLRs again, especially after reading this:
    http://roadcyclinguk.com/news/gear-news/mavic-ksyrium-slr-review659.html

Which came out today. Although 6pt thinks they're poor value for money so I'll have to find out why....
