  • My wholly unscientific 90/10 estimate is entirely because of the excessive speed and positioning of the motorcyclist. The driver certainly should have been more careful but the motorcyclist should have been ten times more careful than he was being.

    I'll try and describe it a little better. I can't remember what the vehicle was, but there was a lorry or something large in the centre lane, which initially obscured the Saab from my point of view in the centre of the bus lane. What I think happened is that the Saab driver (who was indicating) checked his mirror and began the manoeuvre, having seen a reasonable amount of space in front of me (certainly more than seems to be considered enough for the average lane change manoeuvre in London). At that point, the motorcycle was passing (swerving, really) between me and the other traffic in the centre lane, so he would have been in a position where he was even less visible to the Saab than I was. And he came through very, very quickly in comparison to the prevailing speed of the traffic.

    There's blame on both parties here but as a motorcyclist yourself, Lynx, you really ought not to be defending the way this guy was riding.
