Every year there is an Audax of sorts which goes around the island, usually there is a forum contingent - some of whom will go fixed. It's lumpy and there are a couple of reasonably long climbs, but if you go into it with a little fitness and a sensible gearing there is no reason why you can't do it fixed; plenty do. I did it fixed last year and it was a lot of fun.

Also the T-boning by a stag is terrifying, especially since I've seen more than one near miss myself.

Cheers mate! I'm starting to do longer local rides at the moment, just to help build it up! Yeah he's pretty lucky to be alive, huge things.
Sometime next year I'm planning to do a sponsered ride around the Isle of Wight for charity. Every single penny I raise will be going towards a charity that helps deal with spinal injuries and the like. My girlfriends uncle was T-boned by a stag a few months ago whilst riding his bike, and has been paralysed shoulders down. I was just wondering if anybody has ridden round on a fixed gear bike, or if it's worth me building a cheap roadie. Thanks guys, wish me luck!
