• Had my bag stolen a few weeks ago from in a cloakroom with all my bike keys in it found the spares for most of my locks except the one locking up my spare bike outside my apartment. I swear my mrs has put it somewhere or chucked it out accidentally. I really want to ride my spare. If no one has one to borrow any ideas. It's a really thick chain lock with a tiny d lock keeping it together.

  • Maybe pop down your local fire station and ask really nicely. Failing that there is an angle grinder in basement, not got round to trying it but I assume it works if you can get power to it.

  • Well i think if you rub the chain it might fall off. oh wait that was a magic lamp. why cant you just pick the lock up and take it off?
you should use the key if you can, that would be logical

  • Key be lost blud.

  • Yeah the spare keys are lost or very well misplaced in my apartment. I've looked everywhere for them on numerous occasions but still cant find the fuckers. The other ones got stolen along with my bag from the cloakroom in the deaf institute. It's really annoying me though.

    1. Sell locked bike to Salman for a £1 polo project
    2. Wait ~30 seconds for inevitable theft
    3. Locate on Gumtree
    4. Apprehend bike thief
    5. Buy back bike from Salman for 99p
    6. Profit!
  • where is it? Is there a power supply nearby? There is a small chance I can borrow a grinder from work in waterloo if it is only gone for a few hours. otherwise go to HSS tool hire, or any tool hire shop.

  • Unless Waterloo just moved to Manchester to avoid the Olympics your offer might be a bit of a stretch for a lunch time mission.

  • we have an angle grinder at Pedal, is your bike locked to something or is the lock just locked round it? If so bring it by tomorrow 5pm-7.30pm

  • just re-read it. we could lend you it for a bit if you get it back the same day

  • Its locked up to the railings inside my apartment block so power isn't an issue. Unfortunatly its locked around the railings and my bike so I can't bring it in if I borrow it on the same day that'd be wicked. One small thing though I've never used one before is it as simple as just chopping it with it? Do you guys think bolt cutters could chop this?

I think there is a hss in fallowfield near my house in didsbury but I think they'd charge me for a full day even though I need to use it for 5 mins.

  • Bolt cutters would do it. An angle grinder will be easier a make sparks, which is always fun.

  • Would any of these be suitable pretty cheap to hire <£15

  • Get yourself down pedal or use mine, much cheaper. I accept beer, they accept donations or time volunteering if you know your way around bike.

  • Yeah I'll do that. Snottyotter where do you live? I'd happily buy you a few pints if I could borrow your angle grinder. i've never used one before do I just need goggles and gloves then just press it against the chain for a few minutes? I had a little gander at youtube videos and most of those are pressing against the floor for stability but my locks fastened so it can't do that. Cheers for all the help I really appreciate it.

  • I live in Levy, PedalMCR is in the boat house in Platt fields park. Goggles and gloves are probably an idea, but basically find a chain link that isn't flapping about (maybe pull the bike away from the fence) then gently have at it with the spinning disc of doom, should only take seconds. Let me see if mine works first and I'll get back to you. Obviously this is all on the promise that you deliver said beers to polo one evening to drink and have a go.

I solemly swear that if you lend me your angle grinder I will come to polo bearing gifts of beer and also have a go.

  • You're good at this Rob.

  • I'm the one who stole his keys.
