I'll come if I'm free. Can I dress up like a devil and point my pitchfork at television cameras?
-

I imagine you'll get shot by Seb if you're seen anywhere near the camera's without the regulation clothing / bunting. I thought I might see if I can see anything from Richmond park on the day - I think it's on at the weekend as well isn't it?

Judging by the test event last year you'll see about 15 seconds of the riders as they roll through Richmond Park. At least on Box Hill you'll see 9x 15 seconds (if you've a ticket etc)

There must be a decent pub with a beer garden on the route? What about Hampton Court/Bushy Park?
As for fancy dress outfits, I'd love to hear the BBC commentator try to explain this one:

Lets fill bags with beers lets cycle out of london and find a nice field we can occupy and make a spectacle of ourselves
I am noit sure on the 120 mile route we'll find any spare space now that the whole of the UK is into cycling55,000,000 people lining the route ? !

I'm going to head down from Walthamstow and just vaguely aim for Surrey and see where my route intersects the circuit. Anyone have any ideas about good spots?

drunken forumgers running alongside the riders

I plan to be walking my pet squirrel around the course.
I may let it off its leash occasionally.

Am I right in thinking that it's only Box Hill and the Zig Zag Road that are ticketed on the circuit bit? Might try and find a spot round there...
EDIT according the the internet there's free viewing around the box hill loop

Don't worry. We shan't besmirch this forum's outstanding reputation.
I've just found out that all roads in Richmond Park are closed from 10am on Friday! I was hoping to burble across to Bushy Park/Hampton Court for a picnic and a few beers, but now it's turning into an expedition.
Anyone else got suggestions for prime spots?

Hampton Court Green should be pretty good, and it'll have sun on it till late in the evening.
Either going to pop down there or get in to Bushy park early.

Isn't it meant to be pissing down?

Any tips for a non-londoner on how to get down for this? Weighing up my options...

Hampton Court Green is covered in marquees and seating, at least along the edge of the road.

somewhere in the surrey countryside would be nice
Anyone else up for an outing to watch the Olympic Men's road race in July?
I'm not proposing a genteel picnic with polite applause. More a seething mass of drunken forumgers running alongside the riders in fancy dress. Rather like a Dutch Corner, only in Surrey.
Who's up for it?
