Well.. I phoned Carbon Frame Repairs and explained that the forks had a crack in the blade on one side- their absolutley instantaneous reply was-
"we don't repair forks" and so ended the conversation. My LBS - The Bike Shop in North Harrow, would just break the forks and cut them up to ensure no one would ride them, and put them in the bin.
I sincerely & strongly suggest you do the same please.
In these days of No win, No fee litigation you do need to be very careful indeed.

Yeah, I wasn't thinking someone would take them and ride them, more that every now and again people have expressed interest in broken frames and bits and pieces for experimentation and education.

Remember carbon shards when cutting are a danger too

Cut it up, examine how its built for curiosities sake and make an ornament out of it or something :)

I might just keep sanding to see how deep the crack goes. Then look at it like a cloud and see what shape it makes, and then create a sculpture.
Topiary for fucked forks

truing stand?

Thought about that. For front wheels only, but still could be useful.
Inspiration needed for how to make the steerer into a good base.

the steerer would go nicely in a bench vice

Eurrrghh, I just gripped it at the bottom to see how much it flexed, and it properly moved at the crack.
I weight 85kg and had been riding it round the city, and over cobbles when I couldn't avoid them...I think I have missed something very serious by the skin of my teeth.

The irony being that it probably would have been the skin of your teeth that hit the pavement first.

Be decent if you had a dedicated turbo bike to just hold the front wheel up

Tom, brake them, and bin them, dont offer that to anyone. IMHO

Yeah I'm not going to give them away to anyone any more.
But at the moment I'm enjoying showing them to people and making them wince. When I am feeling creative I might try a front-only truing stand.
If anyone wants some crabon to play with, I'm happy to give away the Alpina fork I have that is damaged. It has a crack in the left hand side (pic 2) that is deep enough that it is in no way ridable. There is approx. 250mm of steerer left.
Here it is:
All I ask is:
1)That you do not ride it as it is
2) That if you repair it and try and ride it again and do yourself or anyone else any damage, you don't send any bad karma my way
3) That you don't make any money out of it, and that if you do, it all goes to the forum or a charity or something
4) That you pay postage from Berlin or wait till early September.
Any interest?
