Looking forward to seeing how this develops, any idea what colour you're gonna spray the frame?

If its on a budget then I wouldn't bother with a respray just yet. Get it rolling first, cheap resprays just get damaged in a second.

I wouldn't have bothered with a respray if it weren't for the bare metal showing through and little bits of rust. It's not deep at the moment but wouldn't want it to escalate. I also know i guy who'll do mates rates on the respray. good quality fraction of the price.

Colour wise, I was gonna go RAL 3004 - Purple Red or RAL 5015 - Sky Blue. I can't decide. What do we think?

Looks like a pretty nice frame. It's difficult to say without seeing it in wheels, but the geometry looks good (can't commetn on fit though obviously). I wouldn't bother with the V8 - painting them will be a faff and they are not at all the right kind of pedals anyway.

Here are a few pics with the saddle and wheels attached.

So just bought a set of Cinelli Giro D'Italia Bars and a Cinelli XA quill stem courtesy of Stupree. Looking forward to get this thing finished and riding hopefully by the end of the month. :-)

You can send me the brake hanger if you want to dispose of it.

Nice frame. Plenty of room for some big tyres.
I wouldn't bother with a respray either, If it's just for knocking about on. You can treat the rust with Jenolite and if you're worried.

Haven't done a great deal on the bike lately. Been searching for some rims to replace the tubs. I wanted silver but there is nothing in 28h... not cheap anyway.
Was thinking of getting a couple of mavic cxp 22s and spraying them silver. seen a thread on how to do it properly. If i can be bothered to do it like that anyway...
http://www.lgfss.com/thread5431.htmlAnyone got any suggestions of any rims they can think of in 700c x 28h in silver?
Before I attempt this and get bored halfway through... -

Nearing the end of this now,
I hope anyway! Final exams out of the way and a summer (if a little wet) to enjoy, but no bike!
Anyway, here it is at the moment.
Still searching for these f****** rims mind. Please help me out finding something!!!

How come you want 28h? -If money's an issue then 32h will be cheapest as they're the most common drilling.
If you want silver don't spray, strip the colour off. There are threads about polishing and stripping anodizing.
Velocity A23's - last time I called BLB they had them in 28h and in silver.
Mavic's online seem to be stupidly overpriced! But there are some black cxp22's at winstanleys

The hubs I have are 28 and i really like them. Suzie Pro Max. But they are laced to Fir SRG 30 tubs which are no good. :-(
And also for some reason I appear to enjoy making my life difficult with these things!
I'll check out BLB and the cxp22's look perfect too. Thanks!

how are you going to perform an emergency stop?
-
• #21
the same way anyone else does who rides brakeless.
Usually by ploughing into the emergency... :-)

It's your first fixed gear build and you're going to jump right in the deep end of the kiddies pool with brakeless.
-
• #23
first build, yes. First fixed bike, no.
Ive had several fixed bikes. Just never built one from the frame up.
Ive done stupid stuff, but I don't have a death wish :-)

Took you two months to think of saying that?
Upon deciding that I don't want to take my treasured rod brake triumph to uni with me, I'm gonna build a fixie (fixed gear whatever you prefer).
I've started with a Raleigh Clubman Frame I picked up for £30.
Obviously it wasn't in the greatest of nick but with a bit of a scrub down of some surface rust and a respray, it'll be looking pretty decent.
I've also got an old cream Bernard Hinault turbo saddle, DMR V8 peddles (what would i need to respray these suitably as they are blue atm?), and recently a pair of Suzie Pro Max Hubs laced to Fir SRG 30 rims.
This said, I don't fancy having the tubular rims so these I'll replace.
I don't have an endless supply of money and the bike isn't going towards being the prettiest thing ever. It will be functional and set to a budget... ish. ;-)
